Surah Al-Hajj — Text, Translation & Audio

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَأَنَّهُۥ يُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَأَنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌۭ ﴿٦﴾

این بخاطر آن است که (بدانید) خداوند حق است؛ و اوست که مردگان را زنده می‌کند؛ و بر هر چیزی تواناست.

All this [happens] because God alone is the Ultimate Truth, and because He alone brings the dead to life, and because He has the power to will anything.

وَأَنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ ءَاتِيَةٌۭ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهَا وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْعَثُ مَن فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ ﴿٧﴾

و اینکه رستاخیز آمدنی است، و شکّی در آن نیست؛ و خداوند تمام کسانی را که در قبرها هستند زنده می‌کند.

And [know, O man] that the Last Hour is bound to come, beyond any doubt, and that God will [in­deed] resurrect all who are in their graves.

وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يُجَٰدِلُ فِى ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍۢ وَلَا هُدًۭى وَلَا كِتَٰبٍۢ مُّنِيرٍۢ ﴿٨﴾

و گروهی از مردم، بدون هیچ دانش و هیچ هدایت و کتاب روشنی بخشی، درباره خدا مجادله می‌کنند!

And yet, among men there is many a one that argues about God without having any knowledge [of Him], without any guidance, and without any light-giving revelation –

ثَانِىَ عِطْفِهِۦ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ لَهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا خِزْىٌۭ ۖ وَنُذِيقُهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ عَذَابَ ٱلْحَرِيقِ ﴿٩﴾

آنها با تکبّر و بی‌اعتنایی (نسبت به سخنان الهی)، می‌خواهند مردم را از راه خدا گمراه سازند! برای آنان در دنیا رسوایی است؛ و در قیامت، عذاب سوزان به آنها می‌چشانیم!

scornfully turning aside [from the truth] so as to lead [others] astray from the path of God. Disgrace [of the spirit] is in store for him in this world; and on the Day of Resurrection We shall make him taste suffering through fire;

ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاكَ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَيْسَ بِظَلَّٰمٍۢ لِّلْعَبِيدِ ﴿١٠﴾

(و به آنان می‌گوییم:) این در برابر چیزی است که دستهایتان از پیش برای شما فرستاده؛ و خداوند هرگز به بندگان ظلم نمی‌کند!

[and he shall be told:] “This is an outcome of what thine own hands have wrought - for, never does God do the least wrong to His creatures!”

وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَعْبُدُ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ حَرْفٍۢ ۖ فَإِنْ أَصَابَهُۥ خَيْرٌ ٱطْمَأَنَّ بِهِۦ ۖ وَإِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ فِتْنَةٌ ٱنقَلَبَ عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِۦ خَسِرَ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْءَاخِرَةَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْخُسْرَانُ ٱلْمُبِينُ ﴿١١﴾

بعضی از مردم خدا را تنها با زبان می‌پرستند (و ایمان قلبیشان بسیار ضعیف است)؛ همین که (دنیا به آنها رو کند و نفع و) خیری به آنان برسد، حالت اطمینان پیدا می‌کنند؛ اما اگر مصیبتی برای امتحان به آنها برسد، دگرگون می‌شوند (و به کفر رومی‌آورند)! (به این ترتیب) هم دنیا را از دست داده‌اند، و هم آخرت را؛ و این همان خسران و زیان آشکار است!

And there is, too, among men many a one who worships God on the border-line [of faith]: thus, if good befalls him, he is satisfied with Him; but if a trial assails him, he turns away utterly, losing [thereby both] this world and the life to come: [and] this, indeed, is a loss beyond compare!

يَدْعُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَضُرُّهُۥ وَمَا لَا يَنفَعُهُۥ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلضَّلَٰلُ ٱلْبَعِيدُ ﴿١٢﴾

او جز خدا کسی را می‌خواند که نه زیانی به او می‌رساند، و نه سودی؛ این همان گمراهی بسیار عمیق است.

[By behaving thus,] he invokes, instead of God, something that can neither harm nor benefit him: [and] this is indeed the utmost one can go astray.

يَدْعُوا۟ لَمَن ضَرُّهُۥٓ أَقْرَبُ مِن نَّفْعِهِۦ ۚ لَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ وَلَبِئْسَ ٱلْعَشِيرُ ﴿١٣﴾

او کسی را می‌خواند که زیانش از نفعش نزدیکتر است؛ چه بد مولا و یاوری، و چه بد مونس و معاشری!

[And sometimes] he invokes [another human being] one that is far more likely to cause harm than benefit: vile, indeed, is such a patron and vile the follower!

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدْخِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يُرِيدُ ﴿١٤﴾

خداوند کسانی را که ایمان آورده و اعمال صالح انجام داده‌اند، در باغهایی از بهشت وارد می‌کند که نهرها زیر درختانش جاری است؛ (آری،) خدا هر چه را اراده کند انجام می‌دهد!

VERILY, God will admit those who have attained to faith and have done righteous deeds into gardens through which running waters flow: for, behold, God does whatever He wills.

مَن كَانَ يَظُنُّ أَن لَّن يَنصُرَهُ ٱللَّهُ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْءَاخِرَةِ فَلْيَمْدُدْ بِسَبَبٍ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ ثُمَّ لْيَقْطَعْ فَلْيَنظُرْ هَلْ يُذْهِبَنَّ كَيْدُهُۥ مَا يَغِيظُ ﴿١٥﴾

هر کس گمان می‌کند که خدا پیامبرش را در دنیا و آخرت یاری نخواهد کرد (و از این نظر عصبانی است، هر کاری از دستش ساخته است بکند)، ریسمانی به سقف خانه خود بیاویزد، و خود را حلق آویز و نفس خود را قطع کند (و تا لبه پرتگاه مرگ پیش رود)؛ ببیند آیا این کار خشم او را فرو می‌نشاند؟!

If anyone thinks that God will not succour him in this world and in the life to come, let him reach out unto heaven by any [other] means and [thus try to] make headway: and then let him see whether this scheme of his will indeed do away with the cause of his anguish.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ ءَايَٰتٍۭ بَيِّنَٰتٍۢ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَهْدِى مَن يُرِيدُ ﴿١٦﴾

این گونه ما آن [= قرآن‌] را بصورت آیات روشنی نازل کردیم؛ و خداوند هر کس را بخواهد هدایت می‌کند.

And thus have We bestowed from on high this [divine writ] in the shape of clear messages: for [thus it is] that God guides him who wills [to be guided].

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ وَٱلصَّٰبِـِٔينَ وَٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰ وَٱلْمَجُوسَ وَٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ شَهِيدٌ ﴿١٧﴾

مسلّماً کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اند، و یهود و صابئان [= ستاره‌پرستان‌] و نصاری و مجوس و مشرکان، خداوند در میان آنان روز قیامت داوری می‌کند؛ (و حق را از باطل جدا می‌سازد؛) خداوند بر هر چیز گواه (و از همه چیز آگاه) است.

Verily, as for those who have attained to faith [in this divine writ], and those who follow the Jewish faith, and the Sabians, and the Christians, and the Magians, [on the one hand,] and those who are bent on ascribing divinity to aught but God, [on the other,] verily, God will decide between them on Resurrection Day: for, behold, God is witness unto everything.

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَسْجُدُ لَهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ وَٱلنُّجُومُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ وَٱلدَّوَآبُّ وَكَثِيرٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ ۖ وَكَثِيرٌ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗ وَمَن يُهِنِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن مُّكْرِمٍ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۩ ﴿١٨﴾

آیا ندیدی که تمام کسانی که در آسمانها و کسانی که در زمینند برای خدا سجده می‌کنند؟! و (همچنین) خورشید و ماه و ستارگان و کوه‌ها و درختان و جنبندگان، و بسیاری از مردم! امّا بسیاری (ابا دارند، و) فرمان عذاب درباره آنان حتمی است؛ و هر کس را خدا خوار کند، کسی او را گرامی نخواهد داشت! خداوند هر کار را بخواهد (و صلاح بداند) انجام می‌دهد!

ART THOU NOT aware that before God prostrate themselves all [things and beings] that are in the heavens and all that are on earth the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and the beasts? And many human beings [submit to God con­sciously], whereas many [others, having defied Him,] will inevitably have to suffer [in the life to come]; and he whom God shall scorn [on Resur­rection Day] will have none who could bestow honour on him: for, verily, God does what He wills.

۞ هَٰذَانِ خَصْمَانِ ٱخْتَصَمُوا۟ فِى رَبِّهِمْ ۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قُطِّعَتْ لَهُمْ ثِيَابٌۭ مِّن نَّارٍۢ يُصَبُّ مِن فَوْقِ رُءُوسِهِمُ ٱلْحَمِيمُ ﴿١٩﴾

اینان دو گروهند که درباره پروردگارشان به مخاصمه و جدال پرداختند؛ کسانی که کافر شدند، لباسهایی از آتش برای آنها بریده شده، و مایع سوزان و جوشان بر سرشان ریخته می‌شود؛

These two contrary kinds of man have become engrossed in contention about their Sus­tainer! But [thus it is:] as for those who are bent on denying the truth garments of fire shall be cut out for them [in the life to come]; burning despair will be poured over their heads,

يُصْهَرُ بِهِۦ مَا فِى بُطُونِهِمْ وَٱلْجُلُودُ ﴿٢٠﴾

آنچنان که هم درونشان با آن آب می‌شود، و هم پوستهایشان.

causing all that is within their bodies, as well as the skins, to melt away.

وَلَهُم مَّقَٰمِعُ مِنْ حَدِيدٍۢ ﴿٢١﴾

و برای آنان گرزهایی از آهن (سوزان) است.

And they shall be held [in this state as if] by iron grips;

كُلَّمَآ أَرَادُوٓا۟ أَن يَخْرُجُوا۟ مِنْهَا مِنْ غَمٍّ أُعِيدُوا۟ فِيهَا وَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلْحَرِيقِ ﴿٢٢﴾

هر گاه بخواهند از غم و اندوه‌های دوزخ خارج شوند، آنها را به آن بازمی‌گردانند؛ و (به آنان گفته می‌شود:) بچشید عذاب سوزان را!

and every time they try in their anguish to come out of it, they shall be returned thereto and [be told]: “Taste suffering through fire [to the full]!”

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدْخِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ يُحَلَّوْنَ فِيهَا مِنْ أَسَاوِرَ مِن ذَهَبٍۢ وَلُؤْلُؤًۭا ۖ وَلِبَاسُهُمْ فِيهَا حَرِيرٌۭ ﴿٢٣﴾

خداوند کسانی را که ایمان آورده و اعمال صالح انجام داده‌اند، در باغهایی از بهشت وارد می‌کند که از زیر درختانش نهرها جاری است؛ آنان با دستبندهایی از طلا و مروارید زینت می‌شوند؛ و در آنجا لباسهایشان از حریر است.

[As against this,] behold, God will admit those who attain to faith and do righteous deeds into gar­dens through which running waters flow, wherein they will be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls, and where silk will be their raiment:

وَهُدُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّيِّبِ مِنَ ٱلْقَوْلِ وَهُدُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ ﴿٢٤﴾

و بسوی سخنان پاکیزه هدایت می‌شوند، و به راه خداوند شایسته ستایش، راهنمایی می‌گردند.

for they were [willing to be] guided towards the best of all tenets, and so they were guided onto the way that leads to the One unto whom all praise is due.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلْنَٰهُ لِلنَّاسِ سَوَآءً ٱلْعَٰكِفُ فِيهِ وَٱلْبَادِ ۚ وَمَن يُرِدْ فِيهِ بِإِلْحَادٍۭ بِظُلْمٍۢ نُّذِقْهُ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍۢ ﴿٢٥﴾

کسانی که کافر شدند، و مؤمنان را از راه خدا بازداشتند، و (همچنین) از مسجد الحرام، که آن را برای همه مردم، برابر قرار دادیم، چه کسانی که در آنجا زندگی می‌کنند یا از نقاط دور وارد می‌شوند (، مستحقّ عذابی دردناکند)؛ و هر کس بخواهد در این سرزمین از راه حق منحرف گردد و دست به ستم زند، ما از عذابی دردناک به او می‌چشانیم!

BEHOLD, as for those who are bent on denying the truth and bar [others] from the path of God and from the Inviolable House of Worship which We have set up for all people alike - [both] those who dwell there and those who come from abroad - and all who seek to profane it by [deliberate] evildoing: [all] such shall We cause to taste grievous suffering in the life to come.]

وَإِذْ بَوَّأْنَا لِإِبْرَٰهِيمَ مَكَانَ ٱلْبَيْتِ أَن لَّا تُشْرِكْ بِى شَيْـًۭٔا وَطَهِّرْ بَيْتِىَ لِلطَّآئِفِينَ وَٱلْقَآئِمِينَ وَٱلرُّكَّعِ ٱلسُّجُودِ ﴿٢٦﴾

(به خاطر بیاور) زمانی را که جای خانه (کعبه) را برای ابراهیم آماده ساختیم (تا خانه را بنا کند؛ و به او گفتیم:) چیزی را همتای من قرار مده! و خانه‌ام را برای طواف‌کنندگان و قیام‌کنندگان و رکوع‌کنندگان و سجودکنندگان (از آلودگی بتها و از هر گونه آلودگی) پاک ساز!

For, when We assigned unto Abraham the site of this Temple, [We said unto him:] “Do not ascribe divinity to aught beside Me!” and: “Purify My Temple for those who will walk around it, and those who will stand before it [in meditation], and those who will bow down and prostrate themselves [in prayer].”

وَأَذِّن فِى ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًۭا وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ ضَامِرٍۢ يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍۢ ﴿٢٧﴾

و مردم را دعوت عمومی به حج کن؛ تا پیاده و سواره بر مرکبهای لاغر از هر راه دوری بسوی تو بیایند...

Hence, [O Muhammad,] proclaim thou unto all people the [duty of] pilgrimage: they will come unto thee on foot and on every [kind of] fast mount, coming from every far-away point [on earth],

لِّيَشْهَدُوا۟ مَنَٰفِعَ لَهُمْ وَيَذْكُرُوا۟ ٱسْمَ ٱللَّهِ فِىٓ أَيَّامٍۢ مَّعْلُومَٰتٍ عَلَىٰ مَا رَزَقَهُم مِّنۢ بَهِيمَةِ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ ۖ فَكُلُوا۟ مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا۟ ٱلْبَآئِسَ ٱلْفَقِيرَ ﴿٢٨﴾

تا شاهد منافع گوناگون خویش (در این برنامه حیاتبخش) باشند؛ و در ایّام معیّنی نام خدا را، بر چهارپایانی که به آنان داده است، (به هنگام قربانی‌کردن) ببرند؛ پس از گوشت آنها بخورید؛ و بینوای فقیر را نیز اطعام نمایید!

so that they might experience much that shall be of benefit to them, and that they might extol the name of God on the days appointed [for sacrifice], over whatever heads of cattle He may have provided for them [to this end]: eat, then, thereof, and feed the unfortunate poor.

ثُمَّ لْيَقْضُوا۟ تَفَثَهُمْ وَلْيُوفُوا۟ نُذُورَهُمْ وَلْيَطَّوَّفُوا۟ بِٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْعَتِيقِ ﴿٢٩﴾

سپس، باید آلودگیهایشان را برطرف سازند؛ و به نذرهای خود وفا کنند؛ و بر گرد خانه گرامی کعبه، طواف کنند.

Thereafter let them bring to an end their state of self-denial, and let them fulfill the vows which they [may] have made, and let them walk [once again] around the Most Ancient Temple.

ذَٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ حُرُمَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌۭ لَّهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦ ۗ وَأُحِلَّتْ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمُ إِلَّا مَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ ٱلرِّجْسَ مِنَ ٱلْأَوْثَٰنِ وَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ قَوْلَ ٱلزُّورِ ﴿٣٠﴾

(مناسک حج) این است! و هر کس برنامه‌های الهی را بزرگ دارد، نزد پروردگارش برای او بهتر است! و چهارپایان برای شما حلال شده، مگر آنچه (ممنوع بودنش) بر شما خوانده می‌شود. از پلیدیهای بتها اجتناب کنید! و از سخن باطل بپرهیزید!

All this [is ordained by God]; and if one houours God’s sacred commandments, it will redound to his own good in his Sustainer’s sight. And all [kinds of] cattle have been made lawful to you [for sacrifice and food], save what is mentioned to you [as forbidden]. Shun, then, [all that God has forbidden and, most of all,] the loathsome evil of idolatrous beliefs and practices; and shun every word that is untrue,

حُنَفَآءَ لِلَّهِ غَيْرَ مُشْرِكِينَ بِهِۦ ۚ وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ فَكَأَنَّمَا خَرَّ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَتَخْطَفُهُ ٱلطَّيْرُ أَوْ تَهْوِى بِهِ ٱلرِّيحُ فِى مَكَانٍۢ سَحِيقٍۢ ﴿٣١﴾

(برنامه و مناسک حج را انجام دهید) در حالی که همگی خالص برای خدا باشد! هیچ گونه همتایی برای او قائل نشوید! و هر کس همتایی برای خدا قرار دهد، گویی از آسمان سقوب کرده، و پرندگان (در وسط هوا) او را می‌ربایند؛ و یا تندباد او را به جای دوردستی پرتاب می‌کند!

[inclining] towards God, [and] turning away from all that is false, without ascribing divine qualities to aught beside Him: for he who ascribes divinity to aught but God is like one who is hurtling down from the skies - whereupon the birds carry him off, or the wind blows him away onto a far-off place.

ذَٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى ٱلْقُلُوبِ ﴿٣٢﴾

این است (مناسک حج)! و هر کس شعائر الهی را بزرگ دارد، این کار نشانه تقوای دلهاست.

This is [to be borne in mind]. And anyone who honours the symbols set up by God [shall know that] verily, these [symbols derive their value] from the God-consciousness in the [believers’] hearts.

لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَٰفِعُ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍۢ مُّسَمًّۭى ثُمَّ مَحِلُّهَآ إِلَى ٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْعَتِيقِ ﴿٣٣﴾

در آن (حیوانات قربانی)، منافعی برای شماست تا زمان معیّنی [= روز ذبح آنها] سپس محل آن، خانه قدیمی و گرامی (کعبه) است.

In that [God-consciousness] you shall find benefits until a term set [by Him is fulfilled], and [you shall know that] its goal and end is the Most Ancient Temple.

وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍۢ جَعَلْنَا مَنسَكًۭا لِّيَذْكُرُوا۟ ٱسْمَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَىٰ مَا رَزَقَهُم مِّنۢ بَهِيمَةِ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ ۗ فَإِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌۭ وَٰحِدٌۭ فَلَهُۥٓ أَسْلِمُوا۟ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلْمُخْبِتِينَ ﴿٣٤﴾

برای هر امّتی قربانگاهی قرار دادیم، تا نام خدا را (به هنگام قربانی) بر چهارپایانی که به آنان روزی داده‌ایم ببرند، و خدای شما معبود واحدی است؛ در برابر (فرمان) او تسلیم شوید و بشارت ده متواضعان و تسلیم‌شوندگان را.

And [thus it is:] unto every community [that has ever believed in Us] have We appointed [sacrifice as] an act of worship, so that they might extol the name of God over whatever heads of cattle He may have provided for them [to this end]. And (always bear in mind:) your God is the One and Only God: hence, surrender yourselves unto Him. And give thou the glad tiding [of God’s acceptance] unto all who are humble –

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَصَابَهُمْ وَٱلْمُقِيمِى ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ ﴿٣٥﴾

همانها که چون نام خدا برده می‌شود، دلهایشان پر از خوف (پروردگار) می‌گردد؛ و شکیبایان در برابر مصیبتهایی که به آنان می‌رسد؛ و آنها که نماز را برپا می‌دارند، و از آنچه به آنان روزی داده‌ایم انفاق می‌کنند.

all whose hearts tremble with awe whenever God is mentioned, and all who patiently bear whatever ill befalls them, and all who are constant in prayer and spend on others out of what We provide for them as sustenance.

وَٱلْبُدْنَ جَعَلْنَٰهَا لَكُم مِّن شَعَٰٓئِرِ ٱللَّهِ لَكُمْ فِيهَا خَيْرٌۭ ۖ فَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱسْمَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا صَوَآفَّ ۖ فَإِذَا وَجَبَتْ جُنُوبُهَا فَكُلُوا۟ مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا۟ ٱلْقَانِعَ وَٱلْمُعْتَرَّ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ سَخَّرْنَٰهَا لَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ﴿٣٦﴾

و شترهای چاق و فربه را (در مراسم حج) برای شما از شعائر الهی قرار دادیم؛ در آنها برای شما خیر و برکت است؛ نام خدا را (هنگام قربانی کردن) در حالی که به صف ایستاده‌اند بر آنها ببرید؛ و هنگامی که پهلوهایشان آرام گرفت (و جان دادند)، از گوشت آنها بخورید، و مستمندان قانع و فقیران را نیز از آن اطعام کنید! این گونه ما آنها را مسخّرتان ساختیم، تا شکر خدا را بجا آورید.

And as for the sacrifice of cattle, We have ordained it for you as one of the symbols set up by God, in which there is [much] good for you. Hence, extol the name of God over them when they are lined up [for sacrifice]; and after they have fallen lifeless to the ground, eat of their flesh, and feed the poor who is contented with his lot (and does not beg), as well as him who is forced to beg. It is to this end that We have made them subservient to your needs, so that you might have cause to be grateful.

لَن يَنَالَ ٱللَّهَ لُحُومُهَا وَلَا دِمَآؤُهَا وَلَٰكِن يَنَالُهُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ مِنكُمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ سَخَّرَهَا لَكُمْ لِتُكَبِّرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَىٰكُمْ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ ﴿٣٧﴾

نه گوشتها و نه خونهای آنها، هرگز به خدا نمی‌رسد. آنچه به او می‌رسد، تقوا و پرهیزگاری شماست. این گونه خداوند آنها را مسخّر شما ساخته، تا او را بخاطر آنکه شما را هدایت کرده است بزرگ بشمرید؛ و بشارت ده نیکوکاران را!

[But bear in mind:] never does their flesh reach God, and neither their blood: it is only your God-consciousness that reaches Him. It is to this end that We have made them subservient to your needs, so that you might glorify God for all the guidance with which He has graced you. And give thou this glad tiding unto the doers of good:

۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدَٰفِعُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ خَوَّانٍۢ كَفُورٍ ﴿٣٨﴾

خداوند از کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اند دفاع می‌کند؛ خداوند هیچ خیانتکار ناسپاسی را دوست ندارد!

Verily, God will ward off [all evil] from those who attain to faith; [and,] verily, God does not love anyone who betrays his trust and is bereft of gratitude.

أُذِنَ لِلَّذِينَ يُقَٰتَلُونَ بِأَنَّهُمْ ظُلِمُوا۟ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ نَصْرِهِمْ لَقَدِيرٌ ﴿٣٩﴾

به کسانی که جنگ بر آنان تحمیل گردیده، اجازه جهاد داده شده است؛ چرا که مورد ستم قرار گرفته‌اند؛ و خدا بر یاری آنها تواناست.

PERMISSION [to fight] is given to those against whom war is being wrongfully waged and, verily, God has indeed the power to succour them -:

ٱلَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا۟ مِن دِيَٰرِهِم بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ إِلَّآ أَن يَقُولُوا۟ رَبُّنَا ٱللَّهُ ۗ وَلَوْلَا دَفْعُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلنَّاسَ بَعْضَهُم بِبَعْضٍۢ لَّهُدِّمَتْ صَوَٰمِعُ وَبِيَعٌۭ وَصَلَوَٰتٌۭ وَمَسَٰجِدُ يُذْكَرُ فِيهَا ٱسْمُ ٱللَّهِ كَثِيرًۭا ۗ وَلَيَنصُرَنَّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَنصُرُهُۥٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَقَوِىٌّ عَزِيزٌ ﴿٤٠﴾

همانها که از خانه و شهر خود، به ناحق رانده شدند، جز اینکه می‌گفتند: «پروردگار ما، خدای یکتاست!» و اگر خداوند بعضی از مردم را بوسیله بعضی دیگر دفع نکند، دیرها و صومعه‌ها، و معابد یهود و نصارا، و مساجدی که نام خدا در آن بسیار برده می‌شود، ویران می‌گردد! و خداوند کسانی را که یاری او کنند (و از آیینش دفاع نمایند) یاری می‌کند؛ خداوند قوی و شکست ناپذیر است.

those who have been driven from their homelands against all right for no other reason than their saying. “Our Sustainer is God!” For, if God had not enabled people to defend themselves against one another, all] monasteries and churches and synagogues and mosques - in [all of] which Gods name is abundantly extolled - would surely have been destroyed [ere now]. And God will most certainly succour him who suc­cours His cause: for, verily, God is most powerful, almighty,

ٱلَّذِينَ إِن مَّكَّنَّٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَمَرُوا۟ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَنَهَوْا۟ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۗ وَلِلَّهِ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْأُمُورِ ﴿٤١﴾

همان کسانی که هر گاه در زمین به آنها قدرت بخشیدیم، نماز را برپا می‌دارند، و زکات می‌دهند، و امر به معروف و نهی از منکر می‌کنند، و پایان همه کارها از آن خداست!

[well aware of] those who, [even] if We firmly establish them on earth, remain constant in prayer, and give in charity, and enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong; but with God rests the final outcome of all events.

وَإِن يُكَذِّبُوكَ فَقَدْ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍۢ وَعَادٌۭ وَثَمُودُ ﴿٤٢﴾

اگر تو را تکذیب کنند، (امر تازه‌ای نیست؛) پیش از آنها قوم نوح و عاد و ثمود (پیامبرانشان را) تکذیب کردند.

AND IF THEY [who are bent on denying the truth] give thee the lie, [O Muhammad, remember that, long] before their time, the people of Noah and [the tribes of] Ad and Thamud gave the lie [to their prophets],

وَقَوْمُ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍۢ ﴿٤٣﴾

و همچنین قوم ابراهیم و قوم لوط؛

as did the people of Abraham, and the people of Lot,

وَأَصْحَٰبُ مَدْيَنَ ۖ وَكُذِّبَ مُوسَىٰ فَأَمْلَيْتُ لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ ﴿٤٤﴾

و اصحاب مدین (قوم شعیب)؛ و نیز موسی (از سوی فرعونیان) تکذیب شد؛ امّا من به کافران مهلت دادم، سپس آنها را مجازات کردم. دیدی چگونه (عمل آنها را) انکار نمودم (و چگونه به آنان پاسخ گفتم)؟!

and the dwellers of Madyan; and [so, too,] Moses was given the lie [by Pharaoh]. And [in every ease] I gave rein, for a while, to the deniers of the truth: but then I took them to task - and how awesome was My denial [of them,]!

فَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَٰهَا وَهِىَ ظَالِمَةٌۭ فَهِىَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَىٰ عُرُوشِهَا وَبِئْرٍۢ مُّعَطَّلَةٍۢ وَقَصْرٍۢ مَّشِيدٍ ﴿٤٥﴾

چه بسیار شهرها و آبادیهایی که آنها را نابود و هلاک کردیم در حالی که (مردمش) ستمگر بودند، بگونه‌ای که بر سقفهای خود فروریخت! (نخست سقفها ویران گشت؛ و بعد دیوارها بر روی سقفها!) و چه بسیار چاه پر آب که بی‌صاحب ماند؛ و چه بسیار قصرهای محکم و مرتفع!

And how many a township have We destroyed because it had been immersed in evildoing - and now they [all] lie deserted, with their roofs caved in! And how many a well lies abandoned, and how many a castle that [once] stood high!

أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَتَكُونَ لَهُمْ قُلُوبٌۭ يَعْقِلُونَ بِهَآ أَوْ ءَاذَانٌۭ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا ۖ فَإِنَّهَا لَا تَعْمَى ٱلْأَبْصَٰرُ وَلَٰكِن تَعْمَى ٱلْقُلُوبُ ٱلَّتِى فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ ﴿٤٦﴾

آیا آنان در زمین سیر نکردند، تا دلهایی داشته باشند که حقیقت را با آن درک کنند؛ یا گوشهای شنوایی که با آن (ندای حق را) بشنوند؟! چرا که چشمهای ظاهر نابینا نمی‌شود، بلکه دلهایی که در سینه‌هاست کور می‌شود.

Have they, then, never journeyed about the earth, letting their hearts gain wisdom, and causing their ears to hear? Yet, verily, it is not their eyes that have become blind - but blind have become the hearts that are in their breasts!

وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلْعَذَابِ وَلَن يُخْلِفَ ٱللَّهُ وَعْدَهُۥ ۚ وَإِنَّ يَوْمًا عِندَ رَبِّكَ كَأَلْفِ سَنَةٍۢ مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ ﴿٤٧﴾

آنان از تو تقاضای شتاب در عذاب می‌کنند؛ در حالی که خداوند هرگز از وعده خود تخلّف نخواهد کرد! و یک روز نزد پروردگارت، همانند هزار سال از سالهایی است که شما می‌شمرید!

And [so, O Muhammad,] they challenge thee to hasten the coming upon them of [God’s] chastisement: but God never fails to fulfill His promise - and, behold, in thy Sustainer’s sight a day is like a thousand years of your reckoning.

وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَمْلَيْتُ لَهَا وَهِىَ ظَالِمَةٌۭ ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهَا وَإِلَىَّ ٱلْمَصِيرُ ﴿٤٨﴾

و چه بسیار شهرها و آبادیهایی که به آنها مهلت دادم، در حالی که ستمگر بودند؛ (امّا از این مهلت برای اصلاح خویش استفاده نکردند.) سپس آنها را مجازات کردم؛ و بازگشت، تنها بسوی من است!

And to how many a community that was im­mersed in evildoing have I given rein for a while! But then I took it to task: for with Me is all journeys’ end!

قُلْ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ ﴿٤٩﴾

بگو: «ای مردم! من برای شما بیم‌دهنده آشکاری هستم!

SAY [O Muhammad]: “O men! I am but a plain warner [sent by God] unto you!”

فَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ وَرِزْقٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ ﴿٥٠﴾

آنها که ایمان آوردند و اعمال صالح انجام دادند، آمرزش و روزی پر ارزشی برای آنهاست!

And [know that] those who attain to faith and do righteous deeds shall be granted forgiveness of sins and a most excellent sustenance;

وَٱلَّذِينَ سَعَوْا۟ فِىٓ ءَايَٰتِنَا مُعَٰجِزِينَ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ﴿٥١﴾

و آنها که در (محو) آیات ما تلاش کردند، و چنین می‌پنداشتند که می‌توانند بر اراده حتمی ما غالب شوند، اصحاب دوزخند!»

whereas those who strive against Our messages, seeking to defeat their purpose - they are destined for the blazing fire.

وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍۢ وَلَا نَبِىٍّ إِلَّآ إِذَا تَمَنَّىٰٓ أَلْقَى ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ فِىٓ أُمْنِيَّتِهِۦ فَيَنسَخُ ٱللَّهُ مَا يُلْقِى ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ ثُمَّ يُحْكِمُ ٱللَّهُ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ ﴿٥٢﴾

هیچ پیامبری را پیش از تو نفرستادیم مگر اینکه هرگاه آرزو می‌کرد (و طرحی برای پیشبرد اهداف الهی خود می‌ریخت)، شیطان القائاتی در آن می‌کرد؛ امّا خداوند القائات شیطان را از میان می‌برد، سپس آیات خود را استحکام می‌بخشید؛ و خداوند علیم و حکیم است.

Yet whenever We sent forth any apostle or prophet before thee, and he was hoping [that his warnings would be heeded], Satan would cast an asper­sion on his innermost aims: but God renders null and void whatever aspersion Satan may cast; and God makes His messages clear in and by themselves for God is all-knowing, wise.

لِّيَجْعَلَ مَا يُلْقِى ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ فِتْنَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ وَٱلْقَاسِيَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ لَفِى شِقَاقٍۭ بَعِيدٍۢ ﴿٥٣﴾

هدف این بود که خداوند القای شیطان را آزمونی قرار دهد برای آنها که در دلهایشان بیماری است، و آنها که سنگدلند؛ و ظالمان در عداوت شدید دور از حقّ قرار گرفته‌اند!

[And He allows doubts to arise] so that He might cause whatever aspersion Satan may cast [against His prophets] to become a trial for all in whose hearts is disease and all whose hearts are hardened: for, verily, all who are [thus] sinning [against themselves] are most deeply in the wrong.

وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ أَنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَيُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَتُخْبِتَ لَهُۥ قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهَادِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍۢ مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ ﴿٥٤﴾

و (نیز) هدف این بود که آگاهان بدانند این حقّی است از سوی پروردگارت، و در نتیجه به آن ایمان بیاورند، و دلهایشان در برابر آن خاضع گردد؛ و خداوند کسانی را که ایمان آوردند، بسوی صراط مستقیم هدایت می‌کند.

And [God renders Satan’s aspersions null and void] so that they who are endowed with [innate] knowledge might know that this [divine writ] is the truth from thy Sustainer, and that they aught believe in it, and that their hearts might humbly submit unto Him. For, behold, God does guide onto a straight way those who have attained to faith –

وَلَا يَزَالُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى مِرْيَةٍۢ مِّنْهُ حَتَّىٰ تَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ بَغْتَةً أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَقِيمٍ ﴿٥٥﴾

کافران همواره در باره قرآن در شکّ هستند، تا آنکه روز قیامت بطور ناگهانی فرارسد، یا عذاب روز عقیم [= روزی که قادر بر جبران گذشته نیستند] به سراغشان آید!

whereas those who are bent on denying the truth will not cease to be in doubt about Him until the Last Hour comes suddenly upon them and [supreme] suffering befalls them on a Day void of all hope.

ٱلْمُلْكُ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ لِّلَّهِ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ فَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ فِى جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ﴿٥٦﴾

حکومت و فرمانروایی در آن روز از آن خداست؛ و میان آنها داوری می‌کند: کسانی که ایمان آورده و کارهای شایسته انجام داده‌اند، در باغهای پرنعمت بهشتند؛

On that Day, all dominion shall [visibly] belong to God, He shall judge [all men and make a distinction] between them: thus, all who had attained to faith and did righteous deeds shall find themselves in gardens of bliss,

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌۭ مُّهِينٌۭ ﴿٥٧﴾

و کسانی که کافر شدند و آیات ما را تکذیب کردند، عذاب خوارکننده‌ای برای آنهاست!

whereas for those who were bent on denying the truth and gave the lie to Our messages, there shall be shameful suffering in store.

وَٱلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ قُتِلُوٓا۟ أَوْ مَاتُوا۟ لَيَرْزُقَنَّهُمُ ٱللَّهُ رِزْقًا حَسَنًۭا ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ ﴿٥٨﴾

و کسانی که در راه خدا هجرت کردند، سپس کشته شدند یا به مرگ طبیعی از دنیا رفتند، خداوند به آنها روزی نیکویی می‌دهد؛ که او بهترین روزی‌دهندگان است!

AND AS FOR those who forsake the domain of evil (and strive) in God’s cause, and then are slain or die - God will most certainly provide for them a goodly sustenance [in the life to come] for, verily, God - He alone - is the best of providers;

لَيُدْخِلَنَّهُم مُّدْخَلًۭا يَرْضَوْنَهُۥ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلِيمٌ حَلِيمٌۭ ﴿٥٩﴾

خداوند آنان را در محلی وارد می‌کند که از آن خشنود خواهند بود؛ و خداوند دانا و بردبار است.

[and] He will most certainly cause them to enter upon a state (of being) that shall please them well: for, verily, God is all-knowing, most forbearing.

۞ ذَٰلِكَ وَمَنْ عَاقَبَ بِمِثْلِ مَا عُوقِبَ بِهِۦ ثُمَّ بُغِىَ عَلَيْهِ لَيَنصُرَنَّهُ ٱللَّهُ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَفُوٌّ غَفُورٌۭ ﴿٦٠﴾

(آری،) مطلب چنین است! و هر کس به همان مقدار که به او ستم شده مجازات کند، سپس مورد تعدّی قرار گیرد، خدا او را یاری خواهد کرد؛ یقیناً خداوند بخشنده و آمرزنده است!

Thus shall it be. And as for him who responds to aggression only to the extent of the attack levelled against him, and is thereupon [again] treacherously attacked - God will most certainly succour him: for, behold, God is indeed an absolver of sins, much-forgiving.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُولِجُ ٱلَّيْلَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِى ٱلَّيْلِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌۢ بَصِيرٌۭ ﴿٦١﴾

این (وعده نصرت الهی) بخاطر آن است (که او بر هر چیز قادر است؛ خداوندی) که شب را در روز، و روز را در شب داخل می‌کند؛ و خداوند شنوا و بیناست!

Thus it is, because God [is almighty the One who] makes the night grow longer by shortening the day, and makes the day grow longer by shortening the night; and because God is all-hearing, all-seeing.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَأَنَّ مَا يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ هُوَ ٱلْبَٰطِلُ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْكَبِيرُ ﴿٦٢﴾

این بخاطر آن است که خداوند حقّ است؛ و آنچه را غیر از او می‌خوانند باطل است؛ و خداوند بلندمقام و بزرگ است!

Thus it is, because God alone is the Ultimate Truth, so that all that men invoke beside Him is sheer falsehood, and because God alone is exalted, great!

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ فَتُصْبِحُ ٱلْأَرْضُ مُخْضَرَّةً ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَطِيفٌ خَبِيرٌۭ ﴿٦٣﴾

آیا ندیدی خداوند از آسمان، آبی فرستاد، و زمین (بر اثر آن) سرسبز و خرّم می‌گردد؟! و خداوند لطیف و آگاه است.

Art thou not aware that it’s God who sends down water from the skies, whereupon the earth becomes green? Verily, God is unfathomable [in His wisdom], all-aware.

لَّهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ ﴿٦٤﴾

آنچه در آسمانها و آنچه در زمین است از آن اوست؛ و خداوند بی‌نیاز، و شایسته هر گونه ستایش است!

Unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and, verily, God - He alone - is self-sufficient, the One to whom all praise is due.

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلْفُلْكَ تَجْرِى فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ بِأَمْرِهِۦ وَيُمْسِكُ ٱلسَّمَآءَ أَن تَقَعَ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِٱلنَّاسِ لَرَءُوفٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ﴿٦٥﴾

آیا ندیدی که خداوند آنچه را در زمین است مسخّر شما کرد؛ و (نیز) کشتیهایی را که به فرمان او بر صفحه اقیانوسها حرکت می‌کنند؛ و آسمان [= کرات و سنگهای آسمانی‌] را نگه می‌دارد، تا جز بفرمان او، بر زمین فرو نیفتند؟ خداوند نسبت به مردم رحیم و مهربان است!

Art thou not aware that it is God who has made subservient to you all that is on earth, and the ships that sail through the sea at His behest - and [that it is He who] holds the celestial bodies [in their orbits], so that they may not fall upon the earth otherwise than by His leave? Verily, God is most compassionate towards men, a dispenser of grace –

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَحْيَاكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَكَفُورٌۭ ﴿٦٦﴾

و او کسی است که شما را زنده کرد، سپس می‌میراند، بار دیگر زنده می‌کند، امّا این انسان بسیار ناسپاس است.

seeing that it is He who gave you life, and then will cause you to die, and then will bring you back to life: [but,] verily, bereft of all gratitude is man!

لِّكُلِّ أُمَّةٍۢ جَعَلْنَا مَنسَكًا هُمْ نَاسِكُوهُ ۖ فَلَا يُنَٰزِعُنَّكَ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ ۚ وَٱدْعُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ۖ إِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ هُدًۭى مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ ﴿٦٧﴾

برای هر امّتی عبادتی قرار دادیم، تا آن عبادت را (در پیشگاه خدا) انجام دهند؛ پس نباید در این امر با تو به نزاع برخیزند! بسوی پروردگارت دعوت کن، که بر هدایت مستقیم قرار داری (و راه راست همین است که تو می‌پویی).

UNTO every community have We appointed [different] ways of worship, which they ought to observe. Hence, [O believer,] do not let those [who follow ways other than thine] draw thee into disputes on this score, but summon [them all] unto thy Sustainer: for, behold, thou art indeed on the right way.

وَإِن جَٰدَلُوكَ فَقُلِ ٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٦٨﴾

و اگر آنان با تو به جدال برخیزند، بگو: «خدا از کارهایی که شما انجام می‌دهید آگاهتر است!

And if they [try to] argue with thee, say [only]: “God knows best what you are doing.”

ٱللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ فِيمَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ ﴿٦٩﴾

و خداوند در روز قیامت، میان شما در آنچه اختلاف می‌کردید، داوری می‌کند!»

[For, indeed,] God will judge between you [all] on Resurrection Day with regard to all on which you were wont to differ.

أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ فِى كِتَٰبٍ ۚ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرٌۭ ﴿٧٠﴾

آیا نمی‌دانستی خداوند آنچه را در آسمان و زمین است می‌داند؟! همه اینها در کتابی ثبت است (همان کتاب علم بی‌پایان پروردگار)؛ و این بر خداوند آسان است!

Dost thou not know that God knows all that occurs in heaven as well as on earth? All this, behold, is in [God’s] record: verily, [to know] all this is easy for God.

وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ سُلْطَٰنًۭا وَمَا لَيْسَ لَهُم بِهِۦ عِلْمٌۭ ۗ وَمَا لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ مِن نَّصِيرٍۢ ﴿٧١﴾

آنها غیر از خداوند، چیزهایی را می‌پرستند که او هیچ گونه دلیلی بر آن نازل نکرده است، و چیزهایی را که علم و آگاهی به آن ندارند! و برای ستمگران، یاور و راهنمایی نیست!

And yet they [who claim to believe in Him often] worship [other beings or forces] beside God - something for which He has never bestoweed any warrant from on high, and [of the reality] whereof they cannot have any knowledge: and such evildoers shall have none to succour them [on Judgment Day].

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَٰتُنَا بَيِّنَٰتٍۢ تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلْمُنكَرَ ۖ يَكَادُونَ يَسْطُونَ بِٱلَّذِينَ يَتْلُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَٰتِنَا ۗ قُلْ أَفَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِشَرٍّۢ مِّن ذَٰلِكُمُ ۗ ٱلنَّارُ وَعَدَهَا ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ ﴿٧٢﴾

و هنگامی که آیات روشن ما بر آنان خوانده می‌شود، در چهره کافران آثار انکار مشاهده می‌کنی، آنچنان که نزدیک است برخیزند و با مشت به کسانی که آیات ما را بر آنها میخوانند حمله کنند! بگو: «آیا شما را به بدتر از این خبر دهم؟ همان آتش سوزنده [= دوزخ‌] که خدا به کافران وعده داده؛ و بد سرانجامی است!»

As it is, whenever Our messages are conveyed unto them in all their clarity, thou canst perceive utter repugnance on the faces of those who are bent on denying the truth: they would almost assault those who convey Our messages unto them! Say: “Shall I, then, tell you of something worse than what you feel at present? It is the fire [of the hereafter] that God has promised to those who are bent on denying the truth: and how vile a journey’s end!”

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ضُرِبَ مَثَلٌۭ فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟ لَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَن يَخْلُقُوا۟ ذُبَابًۭا وَلَوِ ٱجْتَمَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ ۖ وَإِن يَسْلُبْهُمُ ٱلذُّبَابُ شَيْـًۭٔا لَّا يَسْتَنقِذُوهُ مِنْهُ ۚ ضَعُفَ ٱلطَّالِبُ وَٱلْمَطْلُوبُ ﴿٧٣﴾

ای مردم! مثلی زده شده است، به آن گوش فرا دهید: کسانی را که غیر از خدا می‌خوانید، هرگز نمی‌توانند مگسی بیافرینند، هر چند برای این کار دست به دست هم دهند! و هرگاه مگس چیزی از آنها برباید، نمی‌توانند آن را باز پس گیرند! هم این طلب‌کنندگان ناتوانند، و هم آن مطلوبان (هم این عابدان، و هم آن معبودان)!

O MEN! A parable is set forth [herewith]; hearken, then, to it! Behold, those beings whom you invoke instead of God cannot create [as much as] a fly, even were they to join all their forces to that end! And if a fly robs them of anything, they cannot [even] rescue it from him! Weak indeed is the seeker, and [weak] the sought!

مَا قَدَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَقَوِىٌّ عَزِيزٌ ﴿٧٤﴾

خدا را آن گونه که باید بشناسند نشناختند؛ خداوند قوّی و شکست‌ناپذیر است!

No true understanding of God have they [who err in this way]: for, verily, God is most powerful, almighty!

ٱللَّهُ يَصْطَفِى مِنَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ رُسُلًۭا وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌۢ بَصِيرٌۭ ﴿٧٥﴾

خداوند از فرشتگان رسولانی برمی‌گزیند، و همچنین از مردم؛ خداوند شنوا و بیناست!

[In His almightiness,] God chooses message-bearers from among the angels as well as from among men. But, behold, God [alone] is all-hearing, all-see­ing:

يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۗ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ ٱلْأُمُورُ ﴿٧٦﴾

آنچه را در پیش روی آنها و پشت سر آنهاست می‌داند؛ و همه امور بسوی خدا بازمی‌گردد.

[whereas their knowledge is limited,] He knows all that lies open before them and all that is hidden from them for all things go back to God [as their source].

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱرْكَعُوا۟ وَٱسْجُدُوا۟ وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ وَٱفْعَلُوا۟ ٱلْخَيْرَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ۩ ﴿٧٧﴾

ای کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اید! رکوع کنید، و سجود بجا آورید، و پروردگارتان را عبادت کنید، و کار نیک انجام دهید، شاید رستگار شوید!

O YOU who have attained to faith! Bow down and prostrate yourselves, and worship your Sustainer [alone], and do good, so that you might attain to a happy state!

وَجَٰهِدُوا۟ فِى ٱللَّهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهِۦ ۚ هُوَ ٱجْتَبَىٰكُمْ وَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍۢ ۚ مِّلَّةَ أَبِيكُمْ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۚ هُوَ سَمَّىٰكُمُ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ مِن قَبْلُ وَفِى هَٰذَا لِيَكُونَ ٱلرَّسُولُ شَهِيدًا عَلَيْكُمْ وَتَكُونُوا۟ شُهَدَآءَ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ ۚ فَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ هُوَ مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖ فَنِعْمَ ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ وَنِعْمَ ٱلنَّصِيرُ ﴿٧٨﴾

و در راه خدا جهاد کنید، و حقّ جهادش را ادا نمایید! او شما را برگزید، و در دین (اسلام) کار سنگین و سختی بر شما قرار ندارد؛ از آیین پدرتان ابراهیم پیروی کنید؛ خداوند شما را در کتابهای پیشین و در این کتاب آسمانی «مسلمان» نامید، تا پیامبر گواه بر شما باشد، و شما گواهان بر مردم! پس نماز را برپا دارید، و زکات را بدهید، و به خدا تمسّک جویید، که او مولا و سرپرست شماست! چه مولای خوب، و چه یاور شایسته‌ای!

And strive hard in God’s cause with all the striving that is due to Him: it is He who has elected you [to carry His message], and has laid no hardship on you in [anything that pertains to religion, [and made you follow] the creed of your forefather Abraham. It is He who has named you in bygone times as well as in this [divine writ] – “those who have surrendered themselves to God”, so that the Apostle might bear witness to the truth before you, and that you might bear witness to it before all mankind. Thus, be constant in prayer, and render the purifying dues, and hold fast unto God. He is your Lord Supreme: and how excellent is this Lord Supreme, and how excellent this Giver of Succour!
