Surah At-Tawba — Text, Translation & Audio

وَإِنْ أَحَدٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ ٱسْتَجَارَكَ فَأَجِرْهُ حَتَّىٰ يَسْمَعَ كَلَٰمَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ أَبْلِغْهُ مَأْمَنَهُۥ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌۭ لَّا يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٦﴾

و اگر یکی از مشرکان از تو پناهندگی بخواهد، به او پناه ده تا سخن خدا را بشنود (و در آن بیندیشد)! سپس او را به محل امنش برسان، چرا که آنها گروهی ناآگاهند!

And if any of those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God seeks thy protection, grant him protection, so that he might [be able to] hear the word of God [from thee]; and thereupon convey him to a place where he can feel secure: this, because they [may be] people who [sin only because they] do not know [the truth].

كَيْفَ يَكُونُ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ عَهْدٌ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعِندَ رَسُولِهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ عَٰهَدتُّمْ عِندَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ ۖ فَمَا ٱسْتَقَٰمُوا۟ لَكُمْ فَٱسْتَقِيمُوا۟ لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿٧﴾

چگونه برای مشرکان پیمانی نزد خدا و رسول او خواهد بود (در حالی که آنها همواره آماده شکستن پیمانشان هستند)؟! مگر کسانی که نزد مسجد الحرام با آنان پیمان بستید؛ (و پیمان خود را محترم شمردند؛) تا زمانی که در برابر شما وفادار باشند، شما نیز وفاداری کنید، که خداوند پرهیزگاران را دوست دارد!

HOW COULD they who ascribe divinity to aught beside God be granted a covenant by God and His Apostle, unless it be those [of them] with whom you [O believers] have made a covenant in the vicinity of the Inviolable House of Worship? [As for the latter,] so long as they remain true to you, be true to them: for, verily, God loves those who are conscious of Him.

كَيْفَ وَإِن يَظْهَرُوا۟ عَلَيْكُمْ لَا يَرْقُبُوا۟ فِيكُمْ إِلًّۭا وَلَا ذِمَّةًۭ ۚ يُرْضُونَكُم بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَتَأْبَىٰ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَ ﴿٨﴾

چگونه (پیمان مشرکان ارزش دارد)، در حالی که اگر بر شما غالب شوند، نه ملاحظه خویشاوندی با شما را می‌کنند، و نه پیمان را؟! شما را با زبان خود خشنود می‌کنند، ولی دلهایشان ابا دارد؛ و بیشتر آنها فرمانبردار نیستند!

How [else could it be]? -since, if they [who are hostile to you] were to overcome you, they would not respect any tie [with you,] nor any obligation to protect [you]. They seek to please you with their mouths, the while their hearts remain averse [to you]; and most of them are iniquitous.

ٱشْتَرَوْا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنًۭا قَلِيلًۭا فَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ سَآءَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٩﴾

آنها آیات خدا را به بهای کمی فروختند؛ و (مردم را) از راه او باز داشتند؛ آنها اعمال بدی انجام می‌دادند!

God's messages have they bartered away for a trifling gain, and have thus turned away from His path: evil, behold, is all that they are wont to do,

لَا يَرْقُبُونَ فِى مُؤْمِنٍ إِلًّۭا وَلَا ذِمَّةًۭ ۚ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُعْتَدُونَ ﴿١٠﴾

(نه تنها درباره شما،) درباره هیچ فرد باایمانی رعایت خویشاوندی و پیمان را نمی‌کنند؛ و آنها همان تجاوز کارانند!

respecting no tie and no protective obligation with regard to a believer; and it is they, they who transgress the bounds of what is right!

فَإِن تَابُوا۟ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَوُا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ ۗ وَنُفَصِّلُ ٱلْءَايَٰتِ لِقَوْمٍۢ يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿١١﴾

(ولی) اگر توبه کنند، نماز را برپا دارند، و زکات را بپردازند، برادر دینی شما هستند؛ و ما آیات خود را برای گروهی که می‌دانند (و می‌اندیشند)، شرح می‌دهیم!

Yet if they repent, and take to prayer, and render the purifying dues, they become your brethren in faith: and clearly do We spell out these messages unto people of [innate] knowledge!

وَإِن نَّكَثُوٓا۟ أَيْمَٰنَهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ عَهْدِهِمْ وَطَعَنُوا۟ فِى دِينِكُمْ فَقَٰتِلُوٓا۟ أَئِمَّةَ ٱلْكُفْرِ ۙ إِنَّهُمْ لَآ أَيْمَٰنَ لَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَنتَهُونَ ﴿١٢﴾

و اگر پیمانهای خود را پس از عهد خویش بشکنند، و آیین شما را مورد طعن قرار دهند، با پیشوایان کفر پیکار کنید؛ چرا که آنها پیمانی ندارند؛ شاید (با شدّت عمل) دست بردارند!

But if they break their solemn pledges after having concluded a covenant, and revile your religion, then fight against these archetypes of faithlessness who, behold, have no [regard for their own] pledges, so that they might desist [from aggression].

أَلَا تُقَٰتِلُونَ قَوْمًۭا نَّكَثُوٓا۟ أَيْمَٰنَهُمْ وَهَمُّوا۟ بِإِخْرَاجِ ٱلرَّسُولِ وَهُم بَدَءُوكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۚ أَتَخْشَوْنَهُمْ ۚ فَٱللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَن تَخْشَوْهُ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ ﴿١٣﴾

آیا با گروهی که پیمانهای خود را شکستند، و تصمیم به اخراج پیامبر گرفتند، پیکار نمی‌کنید؟! در حالی که آنها نخستین بار (پیکار با شما را) آغاز کردند؛ آیا از آنها می‌ترسید؟! با اینکه خداوند سزاوارتر است که از او بترسید، اگر مؤمن هستید!

Would you, perchance, fail to fight against people who have broken their solemn pledges, and have done all that they could to drive the Apostle away, and have been first to attack you? Do you hold them in awe? Nay, it is God alone of whom you ought to stand in awe, if you are [truly] believers!

قَٰتِلُوهُمْ يُعَذِّبْهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ وَيُخْزِهِمْ وَيَنصُرْكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيَشْفِ صُدُورَ قَوْمٍۢ مُّؤْمِنِينَ ﴿١٤﴾

با آنها پیکار کنید، که خداوند آنان را به دست شما مجازات می‌کند؛ و آنان را رسوا می‌سازد؛ و سینه گروهی از مؤمنان را شفا می‌بخشد (؛ و بر قلب آنها مرهم می‌نهد)

Fight against them! God will chastise them by your hands, and will bring disgrace upon them, and will succour you against them; and He will soothe the bosoms of those who believe,

وَيُذْهِبْ غَيْظَ قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَيَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ ﴿١٥﴾

و خشم دلهای آنان را از میان می‌برد! و خدا توبه هر کس را بخواهد (و شایسته بداند)، می‌پذیرد؛ و خداوند دانا و حکیم است.

and will remove the wrath that is in their hearts. And God will turn in His mercy unto whom He wills: for, God is all-knowing, wise.

أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَن تُتْرَكُوا۟ وَلَمَّا يَعْلَمِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ جَٰهَدُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَلَمْ يَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا رَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلِيجَةًۭ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿١٦﴾

آیا گمان کردید که (به حال خود) رها می‌شوید در حالی که هنوز کسانی که از شما جهاد کردند، و غیر از خدا و رسولش و مؤمنان را محرم اسرار خویش انتخاب ننمودند، (از دیگران) مشخصّ نشده‌اند؟! (باید آزمون شوید؛ و صفوف از هم جدا گردد؛) و خداوند به آنچه عمل می‌کنید، آگاه است!

Do you [O believers] think that you will be spared unless God takes cognizance of your having striven hard [in His cause] without seeking help from any but God and His Apostle and those who believe in Him? For, God is aware of all that you do.

مَا كَانَ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ أَن يَعْمُرُوا۟ مَسَٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ شَٰهِدِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِم بِٱلْكُفْرِ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَٰلُهُمْ وَفِى ٱلنَّارِ هُمْ خَٰلِدُونَ ﴿١٧﴾

مشرکان حق ندارند مساجد خدا را آباد کنند در حالی که به کفر خویش گواهی می‌دهند! آنها اعمالشان نابود (و بی‌ارزش) شده؛ و در آتش (دوزخ)، جاودانه خواهند ماند!

IT IS NOT for those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God to visit or tend God's houses of worship, the while [by their beliefs] they bear witness against themselves that they are denying the truth. It is they whose works shall come to nought, and they who in the fire shall abide

إِنَّمَا يَعْمُرُ مَسَٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ وَأَقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَى ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَلَمْ يَخْشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ ۖ فَعَسَىٰٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَن يَكُونُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ ﴿١٨﴾

مساجد خدا را تنها کسی آباد می‌کند که ایمان به خدا و روز قیامت آورده، و نماز را برپا دارد، و زکات را بپردازد، و جز از خدا نترسد؛ امید است چنین گروهی از هدایت‌یافتگان باشند.

Only he should visit or tend God's houses of worship who believes in God and the Last Day, and is constant in prayer, and spends in charity, and stands in awe of none but God: for [only such as] these may hope to be among the right-guided!

۞ أَجَعَلْتُمْ سِقَايَةَ ٱلْحَآجِّ وَعِمَارَةَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ كَمَنْ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ وَجَٰهَدَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ لَا يَسْتَوُۥنَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ﴿١٩﴾

آیا سیراب کردن حجاج، و آباد ساختن مسجد الحرام را، همانند (عمل) کسی قرار دادید که به خدا و روز قیامت ایمان آورده، و در راه او جهاد کرده است؟! (این دو،) نزد خدا مساوی نیستند! و خداوند گروه ظالمان را هدایت نمی‌کند!

Do you, perchance, regard the [mere] giving of water to pilgrims and the tending of the Inviolable House of Worship as being equal to [the works of] one who believes in God and the Last Day and strives hard in God's cause? These [things] are not equal in the sight of God. And God does not grace with His guidance people who [deliberately] do wrong.

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَٰهَدُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ أَعْظَمُ دَرَجَةً عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ ﴿٢٠﴾

آنها که ایمان آوردند، و هجرت کردند، و با اموال و جانهایشان در راه خدا جهاد نمودند، مقامشان نزد خدا برتر است؛ و آنها پیروز و رستگارند!

Those who believe, and who have forsaken the domain of evil and have striven hard in God's cause with their possessions and their lives have the highest rank in the sight of God; and it is they, they who shall triumph [in the end]!

يُبَشِّرُهُمْ رَبُّهُم بِرَحْمَةٍۢ مِّنْهُ وَرِضْوَٰنٍۢ وَجَنَّٰتٍۢ لَّهُمْ فِيهَا نَعِيمٌۭ مُّقِيمٌ ﴿٢١﴾

پروردگارشان آنها را به رحمتی از ناحیه خود، و رضایت (خویش)، و باغهایی از بهشت بشارت می‌دهد که در آن، نعمتهای جاودانه دارند؛

Their Sustainer gives them the glad tiding of the grace [that flows] from Him, and of [His] goodly acceptance, and of the gardens which await them, full of lasting bliss,

خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥٓ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌۭ ﴿٢٢﴾

همواره و تا ابد در این باغها (و در میان این نعمتها) خواهند بود؛ زیرا پاداش عظیم نزد خداوند است!

therein to abide beyond the count of time. Verily, with God is a mighty reward!

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟ ءَابَآءَكُمْ وَإِخْوَٰنَكُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ إِنِ ٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلْكُفْرَ عَلَى ٱلْإِيمَٰنِ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ ﴿٢٣﴾

ای کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اید! هرگاه پدران و برادران شما، کفر را بر ایمان ترجیح دهند، آنها را ولیّ (و یار و یاور و تکیه‌گاه) خود قرار ندهید! و کسانی از شما که آنان را ولیّ خود قرار دهند، ستمگرند!

O YOU who have attained to faith! Do not take your fathers and your brothers for allies if a denial of the truth is dearer to them than faith: for those of you who ally themselves with them-it is they, they who are evildoers!

قُلْ إِن كَانَ ءَابَآؤُكُمْ وَأَبْنَآؤُكُمْ وَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُكُمْ وَعَشِيرَتُكُمْ وَأَمْوَٰلٌ ٱقْتَرَفْتُمُوهَا وَتِجَٰرَةٌۭ تَخْشَوْنَ كَسَادَهَا وَمَسَٰكِنُ تَرْضَوْنَهَآ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَجِهَادٍۢ فِى سَبِيلِهِۦ فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِىَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ ﴿٢٤﴾

بگو: «اگر پدران و فرزندان و برادران و همسران و طایفه شما، و اموالی که به دست آورده‌اید، و تجارتی که از کساد شدنش می‌ترسید، و خانه هائی که به آن علاقه دارید، در نظرتان از خداوند و پیامبرش و جهاد در راهش محبوبتر است، در انتظار باشید که خداوند عذابش را بر شما نازل کند؛ و خداوند جمعیّت نافرمانبردار را هدایت نمی‌کند!

Say: "If your fathers and your sons and your brothers and your spouses and your clan, and the worldly goods which you have acquired, and the commerce whereof you fear a decline, and the dwellings in which you take pleasure - [if all these] are dearer to you than God and His Apostle and the struggle in His cause, then wait until God makes manifest His will; and [know that] God does not grace iniquitous folk with His guidance."

لَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى مَوَاطِنَ كَثِيرَةٍۢ ۙ وَيَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ ۙ إِذْ أَعْجَبَتْكُمْ كَثْرَتُكُمْ فَلَمْ تُغْنِ عَنكُمْ شَيْـًۭٔا وَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتْ ثُمَّ وَلَّيْتُم مُّدْبِرِينَ ﴿٢٥﴾

خداوند شما را در جاهای زیادی یاری کرد (و بر دشمن پیروز شدید)؛ و در روز حنین (نیز یاری نمود)؛ در آن هنگام که فزونی جمعیّتتان شما را مغرور ساخت، ولی (این فزونی جمعیّت) هیچ به دردتان نخورد و زمین با همه وسعتش بر شما تنگ شده؛ سپس پشت (به دشمن) کرده، فرار نمودید!

Indeed, God has succoured you on many battlefields, [when you were few;] and [He did so, too,] on the Day of Hunayn, when you took pride in your great numbers and they proved of no avail whatever to you -for the earth, despite all its vastness, became [too] narrow for you and you turned back, retreating:

ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ وَعَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَأَنزَلَ جُنُودًۭا لَّمْ تَرَوْهَا وَعَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ ﴿٢٦﴾

سپس خداوند «سکینه» خود را بر پیامبرش و بر مؤمنان نازل کرد؛ و لشکرهایی فرستاد که شما نمی‌دیدید؛ و کافران را مجازات کرد؛ و این است جزای کافران!

whereupon God bestowed from on high His [gift of] inner peace upon His Apostle and upon the believers, and bestowed [upon you] from on high forces which you could not see, and chastised those who were bent on denying the truth: for such is the recompense of all who deny the truth!

ثُمَّ يَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ﴿٢٧﴾

سپس خداوند -بعد از آن- توبه هر کس را بخواهد (و شایسته بداند)، می‌پذیرد؛ و خداوند آمرزنده و مهربان است.

But with all this, God will turn in His mercy unto whom He wills: for God is much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُشْرِكُونَ نَجَسٌۭ فَلَا يَقْرَبُوا۟ ٱلْمَسْجِدَ ٱلْحَرَامَ بَعْدَ عَامِهِمْ هَٰذَا ۚ وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ عَيْلَةًۭ فَسَوْفَ يُغْنِيكُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦٓ إِن شَآءَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ ﴿٢٨﴾

ای کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اید! مشرکان ناپاکند؛ پس نباید بعد از امسال، نزدیک مسجد الحرام شوند! و اگر از فقر می‌ترسید، خداوند هرگاه بخواهد، شما را به کرمش بی‌نیاز می‌سازد؛ (و از راه دیگر جبران می‌کند؛) خداوند دانا و حکیم است.

O YOU who have attained to faith! Those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God are nothing but impure: and so they shall not approach the Inviolable House of Worship from this year onwards And should you fear poverty, then [know that] in time God will enrich you out of His bounty, if He so wills: for, verily, God is all-knowing, wise!

قَٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَلَا بِٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ وَلَا يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَلَا يَدِينُونَ دِينَ ٱلْحَقِّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ حَتَّىٰ يُعْطُوا۟ ٱلْجِزْيَةَ عَن يَدٍۢ وَهُمْ صَٰغِرُونَ ﴿٢٩﴾

با کسانی از اهل کتاب که نه به خدا، و نه به روز جزا ایمان دارند، و نه آنچه را خدا و رسولش تحریم کرده حرام می‌شمرند، و نه آیین حق را می‌پذیرند، پیکار کنید تا زمانی که با خضوع و تسلیم، جزیه را به دست خود بپردازند!

[And] fight against those who - despite having been vouchsafed revelation [aforetime] -do not [truly] believe either in God or the Last Day, and do not consider forbidden that which God and His Apostle have forbidden, and do not follow the religion of truth [which God has enjoined upon them] till they [agree to] pay the exemption tax with a willing hand, after having been humbled [in war].

وَقَالَتِ ٱلْيَهُودُ عُزَيْرٌ ٱبْنُ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالَتِ ٱلنَّصَٰرَى ٱلْمَسِيحُ ٱبْنُ ٱللَّهِ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ قَوْلُهُم بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ ۖ يُضَٰهِـُٔونَ قَوْلَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ ۚ قَٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۚ أَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ ﴿٣٠﴾

یهود گفتند: «عزیر پسر خداست!» و نصاری کفتند: «مسیح پسر خداست!» این سخنی است که با زبان خود می‌گویند، که همانند گفتار کافران پیشین است؛ خدا آنان را بکشد، چگونه از حق انحراف می‌یابند؟!

AND THE JEWS say, "Ezra is God's son," while the Christians say, "The Christ is God's son." Such are the sayings which they utter with their mouths, following in spirit assertions made in earlier times by people who denied the truth! [They deserve the imprecation:] "May God destroy them!" How perverted are their minds!

ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَٰنَهُمْ أَرْبَابًۭا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمَسِيحَ ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓا۟ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَٰهًۭا وَٰحِدًۭا ۖ لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ ﴿٣١﴾

(آنها) دانشمندان و راهبان خویش را معبودهایی در برابر خدا قرار دادند، و (همچنین) مسیح فرزند مریم را؛ در حالی که دستور نداشتند جز خداوند یکتائی را که معبودی جز او نیست، بپرستند، او پاک و منزه است از آنچه همتایش قرار می‌دهند!

They have taken their rabbis and their monks-as well as the Christ, son of Mary-for their lords beside God, although they had been bidden to worship none but the One God, save whom there is no deity: the One who is utterly remote, in His limitless glory, from anything to which they may ascribe a share in His divinity!

يُرِيدُونَ أَن يُطْفِـُٔوا۟ نُورَ ٱللَّهِ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَيَأْبَى ٱللَّهُ إِلَّآ أَن يُتِمَّ نُورَهُۥ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ ﴿٣٢﴾

آنها می‌خواهند نور خدا را با دهان خود خاموش کنند؛ ولی خدا جز این نمی‌خواهد که نور خود را کامل کند، هر چند کافران ناخشنود باشند!

They want to extinguish God's [guiding] light with their utterances: but God will not allow [this to pass], for He has willed to spread His light in all its fullness, however hateful this may be to all who deny the truth.

هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَرْسَلَ رَسُولَهُۥ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ وَدِينِ ٱلْحَقِّ لِيُظْهِرَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلدِّينِ كُلِّهِۦ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْمُشْرِكُونَ ﴿٣٣﴾

او کسی است که رسولش را با هدایت و آیین حق فرستاد، تا آن را بر همه آیین‌ها غالب گرداند، هر چند مشرکان کراهت داشته باشند!

He it is who has sent forth His Apostle with the [task of spreading] guidance and the religion of truth, to the end that He may cause it to prevail over all [false] religion -however hateful this may be to those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God.

۞ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ كَثِيرًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْأَحْبَارِ وَٱلرُّهْبَانِ لَيَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَٰلَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْبَٰطِلِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ ٱلذَّهَبَ وَٱلْفِضَّةَ وَلَا يُنفِقُونَهَا فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍۢ ﴿٣٤﴾

ای کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اید! بسیاری از دانشمندان (اهل کتاب) و راهبان، اموال مردم را بباطل می‌خورند، و (آنان را) از راه خدا بازمی‌دارند! و کسانی که طلا و نقره را گنجینه (و ذخیره و پنهان) می‌سازند، و در راه خدا انفاق نمی‌کنند، به مجازات دردناکی بشارت ده!

O you who have attained to faith! Behold, many of the rabbis and monks do indeed wrongfully devour men's possessions and turn [others] away from the path of God. But as for all who lay up treasures of gold and silver and do not spend them for the sake of God - give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come]:

يَوْمَ يُحْمَىٰ عَلَيْهَا فِى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ فَتُكْوَىٰ بِهَا جِبَاهُهُمْ وَجُنُوبُهُمْ وَظُهُورُهُمْ ۖ هَٰذَا مَا كَنَزْتُمْ لِأَنفُسِكُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمْ تَكْنِزُونَ ﴿٣٥﴾

در آن روز که آن را در آتش جهنم، گرم و سوزان کرده، و با آن صورتها و پهلوها و پشتهایشان را داغ می‌کنند؛ (و به آنها می‌گویند): این همان چیزی است که برای خود اندوختید (و گنجینه ساختید)! پس بچشید چیزی را که برای خود می‌اندوختید!

on the Day when that [hoarded wealth] shall be heated in the fire of hell and their foreheads and their sides and their backs branded therewith, [those sinners shall be told:] "These are the treasures which you have laid up for yourselves! Taste, then, [the evil of] your hoarded treasures!"

إِنَّ عِدَّةَ ٱلشُّهُورِ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱثْنَا عَشَرَ شَهْرًۭا فِى كِتَٰبِ ٱللَّهِ يَوْمَ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ مِنْهَآ أَرْبَعَةٌ حُرُمٌۭ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلدِّينُ ٱلْقَيِّمُ ۚ فَلَا تَظْلِمُوا۟ فِيهِنَّ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۚ وَقَٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ كَآفَّةًۭ كَمَا يُقَٰتِلُونَكُمْ كَآفَّةًۭ ۚ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿٣٦﴾

تعداد ماه‌ها نزد خداوند در کتاب الهی، از آن روز که آسمانها و زمین را آفریده، دوازده ماه است؛ که چهار ماه از آن، ماه حرام است؛ (و جنگ در آن ممنوع می‌باشد.) این، آیین ثابت و پابرجا (ی الهی) است! بنابر این، در این ماه‌ها به خود ستم نکنید (و از هرگونه خونریزی بپرهیزید)! و (به هنگام نبرد) با مشرکان، دسته جمعی پیکار کنید، همان گونه که آنها دسته جمعی با شما پیکار می‌کنند؛ و بدانید خداوند با پرهیزگاران است!

BEHOLD, the number of months, in the sight of God, is twelve months, [laid down] in God's decree on the day when He created the heavens and the earth; [and] out of these, four are sacred: this is the ever-true law [of God]. Do not, then, sin against yourselves with regard to these [months]. And fight against those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God, all together-just as they fight against you, [O believers,] all together -and know that God is with those who are conscious of Him.

إِنَّمَا ٱلنَّسِىٓءُ زِيَادَةٌۭ فِى ٱلْكُفْرِ ۖ يُضَلُّ بِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُحِلُّونَهُۥ عَامًۭا وَيُحَرِّمُونَهُۥ عَامًۭا لِّيُوَاطِـُٔوا۟ عِدَّةَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ فَيُحِلُّوا۟ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ زُيِّنَ لَهُمْ سُوٓءُ أَعْمَٰلِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ ﴿٣٧﴾

نسی‌ء [= جا به جا کردن و تأخیر ماه‌های حرام‌]، افزایشی در کفر (مشرکان) است؛ که با آن، کافران گمراه می‌شوند؛ یک سال، آن را حلال، و سال دیگر آن را حرام می کنند، تا به مقدار ماه‌هایی که خداوند تحریم کرده بشود (و عدد چهار ماه، به پندارشان تکمیل گردد)؛ و به این ترتیب، آنچه را خدا حرام کرده، حلال بشمرند. اعمال زشتشان در نظرشان زیبا جلوه داده شده؛ و خداوند جمعیّت کافران را هدایت نمی‌کند!

The intercalation [of months] is but one more instance of [their] refusal to acknowledge the truth- [a means] by which those who are bent on denying the truth are led astray. They declare this [intercalation] to be permissible in one year and forbidden in [another] year, in order to conform [outwardly] to the number of months which God has hallowed: and thus they make allowable what God has forbidden. Goodly seems unto them the evil of their own doings, since God does not grace with His guidance people who refuse to acknowledge the truth.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَا لَكُمْ إِذَا قِيلَ لَكُمُ ٱنفِرُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ٱثَّاقَلْتُمْ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ أَرَضِيتُم بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا مِنَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ ۚ فَمَا مَتَٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا فِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ ﴿٣٨﴾

ای کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اید! چرا هنگامی که به شما گفته می‌شود: «به سوی جهاد در راه خدا حرکت کنید!» بر زمین سنگینی می‌کنید (و سستی به خرج می‌دهید)؟! آیا به زندگی دنیا به جای آخرت راضی شده‌اید؟! با اینکه متاع زندگی دنیا، در برابر آخرت، جز اندکی نیست!

O YOU who have attained to faith! What is amiss with you that, when you are called upon, "Go forth to war in God's cause," you cling heavily to the earth? Would you content yourselves with [the comforts of] this worldly life in preference to [the good of] the life to come? But the enjoyment of life in this world is but a paltry thing when compared with the life to come!

إِلَّا تَنفِرُوا۟ يُعَذِّبْكُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًۭا وَيَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ وَلَا تَضُرُّوهُ شَيْـًۭٔا ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌ ﴿٣٩﴾

اگر (به سوی میدان جهاد) حرکت نکنید، شما را مجازات دردناکی می‌کند، و گروه دیگری غیر از شما را به جای شما قرارمی‌دهد؛ و هیچ زیانی به او نمی‌رسانید؛ و خداوند بر هر چیزی تواناست!

If you do not go forth to war [in God's cause], He will chastise you with grievous chastisement, and will place another people in your stead - whereas you shall in no wise harm Him: for, God has the power to will anything.

إِلَّا تَنصُرُوهُ فَقَدْ نَصَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِذْ أَخْرَجَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ثَانِىَ ٱثْنَيْنِ إِذْ هُمَا فِى ٱلْغَارِ إِذْ يَقُولُ لِصَٰحِبِهِۦ لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَا ۖ فَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُۥ عَلَيْهِ وَأَيَّدَهُۥ بِجُنُودٍۢ لَّمْ تَرَوْهَا وَجَعَلَ كَلِمَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلسُّفْلَىٰ ۗ وَكَلِمَةُ ٱللَّهِ هِىَ ٱلْعُلْيَا ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ ﴿٤٠﴾

اگر او را یاری نکنید، خداوند او را یاری کرد؛ (و در مشکلترین ساعات، او را تنها نگذاشت؛) آن هنگام که کافران او را (از مکّه) بیرون کردند، در حالی که دوّمین نفر بود (و یک نفر بیشتر همراه نداشت)؛ در آن هنگام که آن دو در غار بودند، و او به همراه خود می‌گفت: «غم مخور، خدا با ماست!» در این موقع، خداوند سکینه (و آرامش) خود را بر او فرستاد؛ و با لشکرهایی که مشاهده نمی‌کردید، او را تقویت نمود؛ و گفتار (و هدف) کافران را پایین قرار داد، (و آنها را با شکست مواجه ساخت؛) و سخن خدا (و آیین او)، بالا (و پیروز) است؛ و خداوند عزیز و حکیم است!

If you do not succour the Apostle, then [know that God will do so -just as] God succoured him at the time when those who were bent on denying the truth drove him away, [and he was but] one of two: when these two were [hiding] in the cave, [and] the Apostle said to his companion, "Grieve not: verily, God is with us." And thereupon God bestowed upon him from on high His (gift of] inner peace, and brought utterly low the cause of those who were bent on denying the truth, whereas the cause of God remained supreme: for God is almighty, wise.

ٱنفِرُوا۟ خِفَافًۭا وَثِقَالًۭا وَجَٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِكُمْ وَأَنفُسِكُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٤١﴾

(همگی به سوی میدان جهاد) حرکت کنید؛ سبکبار باشید یا سنگین بار! و با اموال و جانهای خود، در راه خدا جهاد نمایید؛ این برای شما بهتر است اگر بدانید!

Go forth to war, whether it be easy or difficult [for you], and strive hard in God's cause with your possessions and your lives: this is for your own good -if you but knew it!

لَوْ كَانَ عَرَضًۭا قَرِيبًۭا وَسَفَرًۭا قَاصِدًۭا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُ ۚ وَسَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَوِ ٱسْتَطَعْنَا لَخَرَجْنَا مَعَكُمْ يُهْلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ ﴿٤٢﴾

(امّا گروهی از آنها، چنانند که) اگر غنایمی نزدیک (و در دسترس)، و سفری آسان باشد، (به طمع دنیا) از تو پیروی می‌کنند؛ ولی (اکنون که برای میدان تبوک،) راه بر آنها دور (و پر مشقت) است، (سرباز می‌زنند؛) و بزودی به خدا سوگند یاد می‌کنند که: «اگر توانایی داشتیم، همراه شما حرکت می‌کردیم!» (آنها با این اعمال و این دروغها، در واقع) خود را هلاک می‌کنند؛ و خداوند می‌داند آنها دروغگو هستند!

Had there been [a prospect of] immediate gain, and an easy journey, they would certainly have followed thee, [O Prophet:] but the distance was too great for them. And yet, [after your return, O believers,] they will swear by God, "Had we been able to do so, we would certainly have set out with you!" - [and by thus falsely swearing] they will be destroying their own selves: for God knows indeed that they are lying!

عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنكَ لِمَ أَذِنتَ لَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكَ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا۟ وَتَعْلَمَ ٱلْكَٰذِبِينَ ﴿٤٣﴾

خداوند تو را بخشید؛ چرا پیش از آنکه راستگویان و دروغگویان را بشناسی، به آنها اجازه دادی؟! (خوب بود صبر می‌کردی، تا هر دو گروه خود را نشان دهند!)

May God pardon thee [O Prophet]! Why didst thou grant them permission [to stay at home] ere it had become obvious to thee as to who was speaking the truth, and [ere] thou camest to know. [who were] the liars?

لَا يَسْتَـْٔذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ أَن يُجَٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿٤٤﴾

آنها که به خدا و روز جزا ایمان دارند، هیچ گاه برای ترک جهاد (در راه خدا) با اموال و جانهایشان، از تو اجازه نمی‌گیرند؛ و خداوند پرهیزگاران را می‌شناسد.

Those who [truly] believe in God and the Last Day do not ask thee for exemption from struggling with their possessions and their lives [in God's cause]-and God has full knowledge as to who is conscious of Him-:

إِنَّمَا يَسْتَـْٔذِنُكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ وَٱرْتَابَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِى رَيْبِهِمْ يَتَرَدَّدُونَ ﴿٤٥﴾

تنها کسانی از تو اجازه (این کار را) می‌گیرند که به خدا و روز جزا ایمان ندارند، و دلهایشان با شکّ و تردید آمیخته است؛ آنها در تردید خود سرگردانند.

only those ask thee for exemption who do not [truly] believe in God and the Last Day and whose hearts have become a prey to doubt, so that in their doubting they waver between one thing and another.

۞ وَلَوْ أَرَادُوا۟ ٱلْخُرُوجَ لَأَعَدُّوا۟ لَهُۥ عُدَّةًۭ وَلَٰكِن كَرِهَ ٱللَّهُ ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمْ فَثَبَّطَهُمْ وَقِيلَ ٱقْعُدُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ ﴿٤٦﴾

اگر آنها (راست می‌گفتند، و) اراده داشتند که (بسوی میدان جهاد) خارج شوند، وسیله‌ای برای آن فراهم می‌ساختند! ولی خدا از حرکت آنها کراهت داشت؛ از این رو (توفیقش را از آنان سلب کرد؛ و) آنها را (از جهاد) باز داشت؛ و به آنان گفته شد: «با «قاعدین» [= کودکان و پیران و بیماران‌] بنشینید!»

For, had they been [truly] desirous of setting out [with thee], they would surely have made some preparation therefor: but God was averse to their taking the field, and so He caused them to hold back when it was said, "[You may] stay at home with all [the others] who stay at home."

لَوْ خَرَجُوا۟ فِيكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمْ إِلَّا خَبَالًۭا وَلَأَوْضَعُوا۟ خِلَٰلَكُمْ يَبْغُونَكُمُ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ وَفِيكُمْ سَمَّٰعُونَ لَهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ﴿٤٧﴾

اگر آنها همراه شما (بسوی میدان جهاد) خارج می‌شدند، جز اضطراب و تردید، چیزی بر شما نمی‌افزودند؛ و بسرعت در بین شما به فتنه‌انگیزی (و ایجاد تفرقه و نفاق) می‌پرداختند؛ و در میان شما، افرادی (سست و ضعیف) هستند که به سخنان آنها کاملاً گوش فرامی‌دهند؛ و خداوند، ظالمان را می‌شناسد.

Had these [hypocrites] set out with_ you, [O believers,] they would have added nothing to you save the evil of corruption, and would surely have scurried to and fro in your midst, seeking to stir up discord among you, seeing that there are in your midst such as would have lent them ear: but God has full knowledge of the evildoers.

لَقَدِ ٱبْتَغَوُا۟ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ مِن قَبْلُ وَقَلَّبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلْأُمُورَ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَظَهَرَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ وَهُمْ كَٰرِهُونَ ﴿٤٨﴾

آنها پیش از این (نیز) در پی فتنه‌انگیزی بودند، و کارها را بر تو دگرگون ساختند (و به هم ریختند)؛ تا آن که حق فرا رسید، و فرمان خدا آشکار گشت (و پیروز شدید)، در حالی که آنها کراهت داشتند.

Indeed, even before this time have they tried to stir up discord and devised all manner of plots against thee, [O Prophet,] until the truth was revealed and God's will became manifest, however hateful this may have been to them.

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ ٱئْذَن لِّى وَلَا تَفْتِنِّىٓ ۚ أَلَا فِى ٱلْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوا۟ ۗ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ بِٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ ﴿٤٩﴾

بعضی از آنها می‌گویند: «به ما اجازه ده (تا در جهاد شرکت نکنیم)، و ما را به گناه نیفکن»! آگاه باشید آنها (هم اکنون) در گناه سقوط کرده‌اند؛ و جهنم، کافران را احاطه کرده است!

And among them there was [many a one] who said," Grant me permission [to remain at home], and do not put me to too hard a test!" Oh, verily, [by making such a request] they had [already failed in their test and] succumbed to a temptation to evil: and, behold, hell will indeed encompass all who refuse to acknowledge the truth!

إِن تُصِبْكَ حَسَنَةٌۭ تَسُؤْهُمْ ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْكَ مُصِيبَةٌۭ يَقُولُوا۟ قَدْ أَخَذْنَآ أَمْرَنَا مِن قَبْلُ وَيَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُمْ فَرِحُونَ ﴿٥٠﴾

هرگاه نیکی به تو رسد، آنها را ناراحت می‌کند؛ و اگر مصیبتی به تو رسد، می‌گویند: «ما تصمیم خود را از پیش گرفته‌ایم.» و بازمی‌گردند در حالی که خوشحالند!

Should good fortune alight on thee, [O Prophet,] it will grieve them; and should misfortune befall thee, they will say [to themselves], "We have already taken our precautions beforehand!" - and will turn away, and will rejoice.

قُل لَّن يُصِيبَنَآ إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَنَا هُوَ مَوْلَىٰنَا ۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿٥١﴾

بگو: «هیچ حادثه‌ای برای ما رخ نمی‌دهد، مگر آنچه خداوند برای ما نوشته و مقرّر داشته است؛ او مولا (و سرپرست) ماست؛ و مؤمنان باید تنها بر خدا توکّل کنند!»

Say: "Never can anything befall us save what God has decreed! He is our Lord Supreme; and in God let the believers place their trust!"

قُلْ هَلْ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَآ إِلَّآ إِحْدَى ٱلْحُسْنَيَيْنِ ۖ وَنَحْنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمْ أَن يُصِيبَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابٍۢ مِّنْ عِندِهِۦٓ أَوْ بِأَيْدِينَا ۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوٓا۟ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ ﴿٥٢﴾

بگو: «آیا درباره ما، جز یکی از دو نیکی را انتظار دارید؟! (: یا پیروزی یا شهادت) ولی ما انتظار داریم که خداوند، عذابی از سوی خودش (در آن جهان) به شما برساند، یا (در این جهان) به دست ما (مجازات شوید) اکنون که چنین است، شما انتظار بکشید، ما هم با شما انتظار می‌کشیم!»

Say: "Are you, perchance, hopefully waiting for something [bad] to happen to us-[the while nothing can happen to us] save one of the two best things? But as far as you are concerned, we are hopefully waiting for God to inflict chastisement upon you, [either] from Himself or by our hands! Wait, then, hopefully; behold, we shall hopefully wait with you!"

قُلْ أَنفِقُوا۟ طَوْعًا أَوْ كَرْهًۭا لَّن يُتَقَبَّلَ مِنكُمْ ۖ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًۭا فَٰسِقِينَ ﴿٥٣﴾

بگو: «انفاق کنید؛ خواه از روی میل باشد یا اکراه، هرگز از شما پذیرفته نمی‌شود؛ چرا که شما قوم فاسقی بودید!»

Say: "You may spend [anything], willingly-or unwillingly, [pretending that you do it for the sake of God:] it shall never be accepted from you -for, verily, you are people bent on iniquity!"

وَمَا مَنَعَهُمْ أَن تُقْبَلَ مِنْهُمْ نَفَقَٰتُهُمْ إِلَّآ أَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا يَأْتُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ إِلَّا وَهُمْ كُسَالَىٰ وَلَا يُنفِقُونَ إِلَّا وَهُمْ كَٰرِهُونَ ﴿٥٤﴾

هیچ چیز مانع قبول انفاقهای آنها نشد، جز اینکه آنها به خدا و پیامبرش کافر شدند، و نماز بجا نمی‌آورند جز با کسالت، و انفاق نمی‌کنند مگر با کراهت!

For, only this prevents their spending from being accepted from them: they are bent on refusing to acknowledge God and His Apostle, and never pray without reluctance, and never spend [on righteous causes] without resentment.

فَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ ﴿٥٥﴾

و (فزونی) اموال و اولاد آنها، تو را در شگفتی فرو نبرد؛ خدا می‌خواهد آنان را به وسیله آن، در زندگی دنیا عذاب کند، و در حال کفر بمیرند!

Let not, then, their worldly goods or [the happiness which they may derive from] their children excite thy admiration: God but wants to chastise them by these means in this worldly life, and [to cause] their souls to depart while they are [still] denying the truth.

وَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُمْ لَمِنكُمْ وَمَا هُم مِّنكُمْ وَلَٰكِنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌۭ يَفْرَقُونَ ﴿٥٦﴾

آنها به خدا سوگند می‌خورند که از شما هستند، در حالی که از شما نیستند؛ ولی آنها گروهی هستند که می‌ترسند (و به خاطر ترس از فاش شدن اسرارشان دروغ می‌گویند)!

And they swear by God that they do indeed belong to you -the while they do not belong to you, but are [only] people ridden by fear:

لَوْ يَجِدُونَ مَلْجَـًٔا أَوْ مَغَٰرَٰتٍ أَوْ مُدَّخَلًۭا لَّوَلَّوْا۟ إِلَيْهِ وَهُمْ يَجْمَحُونَ ﴿٥٧﴾

اگر پناهگاه یا غارها یا راهی در زیر زمین بیابند، بسوی آن حرکت می‌کنند، و با سرعت و شتاب فرار می‌کنند.

if they could but find a place of refuge, or any cavern, or a crevice [in the earth], they would turn towards it in headlong haste.

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَلْمِزُكَ فِى ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ فَإِنْ أُعْطُوا۟ مِنْهَا رَضُوا۟ وَإِن لَّمْ يُعْطَوْا۟ مِنْهَآ إِذَا هُمْ يَسْخَطُونَ ﴿٥٨﴾

و در میان آنها کسانی هستند که در (تقسیم) غنایم به تو خرده میگیرند؛ اگر از آن (غنایم، سهمی) به آنها داده شود، راضی می‌شوند؛ و اگر داده نشود، خشم می‌گیرند (؛ خواه حقّ آنها باشد یا نه)!

And among them are such as find fault with thee [O Prophet] concerning [the distribution of] the offerings given for the sake of God: if they are given something thereof, they are well-pleased; but if they are not given anything thereof, lo! they are consumed with anger.

وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ رَضُوا۟ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَقَالُوا۟ حَسْبُنَا ٱللَّهُ سَيُؤْتِينَا ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ رَٰغِبُونَ ﴿٥٩﴾

(در حالی که) اگر به آنچه خدا و پیامبرش به آنان داده راضی باشند، و بگویند: «خداوند برای ما کافی است! و بزودی خدا و رسولش، از فضل خود به ما می‌بخشند؛ ما تنها رضای او را می‌طلبیم.» (برای آنها بهتر است)!

And yet, [it would be but for their own good] if they were to content themselves with what God has given them and [caused] His Apostle [to give them], and would say, "God is enough for us! God will give us [whatever He wills] out of His bounty, and [will cause] His Apostle [to give us, too]: verily, unto God alone do we turn with hope!"

۞ إِنَّمَا ٱلصَّدَقَٰتُ لِلْفُقَرَآءِ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِ وَٱلْعَٰمِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَٱلْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَفِى ٱلرِّقَابِ وَٱلْغَٰرِمِينَ وَفِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۖ فَرِيضَةًۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ ﴿٦٠﴾

زکاتها مخصوص فقرا و مساکین و کارکنانی است که برای (جمع آوری) آن زحمت می‌کشند، و کسانی که برای جلب محبّتشان اقدام می‌شود، و برای (آزادی) بردگان، و (ادای دین) بدهکاران، و در راه (تقویت آیین) خدا، و واماندگان در راه؛ این، یک فریضه (مهم) الهی است؛ و خداوند دانا و حکیم است!

The offerings given for the sake of God are [meant] only for the poor and the needy, and those who are in charge thereof, and those whose hearts are to be won over, and for the freeing of human beings from bondage, and [for] those who are over burdened with debts, and [for every struggle] in God's cause, and [for] the wayfarer: [this is] an ordinance from God - and God is all-knowing, wise.

وَمِنْهُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ ٱلنَّبِىَّ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ أُذُنٌۭ ۚ قُلْ أُذُنُ خَيْرٍۢ لَّكُمْ يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَيُؤْمِنُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنكُمْ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْذُونَ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۭ ﴿٦١﴾

از آنها کسانی هستند که پیامبر را آزار می‌دهند و می‌گویند: «او آدم خوش‌باوری است!» بگو: «خوش‌باور بودن او به نفع شماست! (ولی بدانید) او به خدا ایمان دارد؛ و (تنها) مؤمنان را تصدیق می‌کند؛ و رحمت است برای کسانی از شما که ایمان آورده‌اند!» و آنها که رسول خدا را آزار می‌دهند، عذاب دردناکی دارند!

AND AMONG those [enemies of the truth] there are such as malign the Prophet by saying, "He is all ear." Say: "[Yes,] he is all ear, [listening] to what is good for you! He believes in God, and trusts the believers, and is [a manifestation of God's] grace towards such of you as have [truly] attained to faith. And as for those who malign God's Apostle - grievous suffering awaits them [in the life to come]!"

يَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَكُمْ لِيُرْضُوكُمْ وَٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ أَحَقُّ أَن يُرْضُوهُ إِن كَانُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿٦٢﴾

آنها برای شما به خدا سوگند یاد می‌کنند، تا شما را راضی سازند؛ در حالی که شایسته‌تر این است که خدا و رسولش را راضی کنند، اگر ایمان دارند!

[The hypocrites] swear to you by God [that they are acting in good faith], with a view to pleasing you [O believers] - the while it is God and His Apostle whose pleasure they should seek above all else, if indeed they are believers!

أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُۥ مَن يُحَادِدِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَأَنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدًۭا فِيهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْخِزْىُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ﴿٦٣﴾

آیا نمی‌دانند هر کس با خدا و رسولش دشمنی کند، برای او آتش دوزخ است؛ جاودانه در آن می‌ماند؟! این، همان رسوایی بزرگ است!

Do they not know that for him who sets himself against God and His Apostle there is in store the fire of hell, therein to abide -that most awesome disgrace?

يَحْذَرُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ أَن تُنَزَّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُورَةٌۭ تُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ قُلِ ٱسْتَهْزِءُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُخْرِجٌۭ مَّا تَحْذَرُونَ ﴿٦٤﴾

منافقان از آن بیم دارند که سوره‌ای بر ضدّ آنان نازل گردد، و به آنها از اسرار درون قلبشان خبر دهد. بگو: «استهزا کنید! خداوند، آنچه را از آن بیم دارید، آشکار می‌سازد!»

[Some of] the hypocrites dread lest a [new] surah be revealed [in evidence] against them, making them understand what is [really] in their hearts. Say: "Go on mocking! Behold, God will bring to light the very thing that you are dreading!"

وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّمَا كُنَّا نَخُوضُ وَنَلْعَبُ ۚ قُلْ أَبِٱللَّهِ وَءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَرَسُولِهِۦ كُنتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِءُونَ ﴿٦٥﴾

و اگر از آنها بپرسی (: «چرا این اعمال خلاف را انجام دادید؟!»)، می‌گویند: «ما بازی و شوخی می‌کردیم!» بگو: «آیا خدا و آیات او و پیامبرش را مسخره می‌کردید؟!»

Yet, indeed, if thou wert to question them. they would surely answer, "We were only indulging in idle talk, and were playing [with words]. Say: "Were you, then. mocking at God and His messages and His Apostle?

لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا۟ قَدْ كَفَرْتُم بَعْدَ إِيمَٰنِكُمْ ۚ إِن نَّعْفُ عَن طَآئِفَةٍۢ مِّنكُمْ نُعَذِّبْ طَآئِفَةًۢ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ ﴿٦٦﴾

(بگو:) عذر خواهی نکنید (که بیهوده است؛ چرا که) شما پس از ایمان آوردن، کافر شدید! اگر گروهی از شما را (بخاطر توبه) مورد عفو قرار دهیم، گروه دیگری را عذاب خواهیم کرد؛ زیرا مجرم بودند!

Do not offer [empty] excuses! You have indeed denied the truth after [having professed] your belief [in it] - Though We may efface the sin of some of you, We shall chastise others - seeing that they were lost in sin.

ٱلْمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقَٰتُ بَعْضُهُم مِّنۢ بَعْضٍۢ ۚ يَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمُنكَرِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَقْبِضُونَ أَيْدِيَهُمْ ۚ نَسُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَنَسِيَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ هُمُ ٱلْفَٰسِقُونَ ﴿٦٧﴾

مردان منافق و زنان منافق، همه از یک گروهند! آنها امر به منکر، و نهی از معروف می‌کنند؛ و دستهایشان را (از انفاق و بخشش) می‌بندند؛ خدا را فراموش کردند، و خدا (نیز) آنها را فراموش کرد (، و رحمتش را از آنها قطع نمود)؛ به یقین، منافقان همان فاسقانند!

The hypocrites, both men and women. are all of a kind: they enjoin the doing of what is wrong and forbid the doing of what is right and withhold their hands [from doing good]. They are oblivious of God, and so He is oblivious of them. Verily, the hypocrites-it is they, they who are truly iniquitously

وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقَٰتِ وَٱلْكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ هِىَ حَسْبُهُمْ ۚ وَلَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌۭ مُّقِيمٌۭ ﴿٦٨﴾

خداوند به مردان و زنان منافق و کفّار، وعده آتش دوزخ داده؛ جاودانه در آن خواهند ماند -همان برای آنها کافی است!- و خدا آنها را از رحمت خود دور ساخته؛ و عذاب همیشگی برای آنهاست!

God- has promised the hypocrites, both men and women-as well as the [outright] deniers of the _ truth-the fire of hell, therein to abide: this shall be their allotted_ portion. For, God has rejected them, and long-lasting suffering awaits them.

كَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ أَشَدَّ مِنكُمْ قُوَّةًۭ وَأَكْثَرَ أَمْوَٰلًۭا وَأَوْلَٰدًۭا فَٱسْتَمْتَعُوا۟ بِخَلَٰقِهِمْ فَٱسْتَمْتَعْتُم بِخَلَٰقِكُمْ كَمَا ٱسْتَمْتَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُم بِخَلَٰقِهِمْ وَخُضْتُمْ كَٱلَّذِى خَاضُوٓا۟ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَٰلُهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْءَاخِرَةِ ۖ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ ﴿٦٩﴾

(شما منافقان،) همانند کسانی هستید که قبل از شما بودند (و راه نفاق پیمودند؛ بلکه) آنها از شما نیرومندتر، و اموال و فرزندانشان بیشتر بود! آنها از بهره خود (از مواهب الهی در راه گناه و هوس) استفاده کردند؛ شما نیز از بهره خود، (در این راه) استفاده کردید، همان گونه که آنها استفاده کردند؛ شما (در کفر و نفاق و استهزای مؤمنان) فرو رفتید، همان گونه که آنها فرو رفتند؛ (ولی سرانجام) اعمالشان در دنیا و آخرت نابود شد؛ و آنها همان زیانکارانند!

[Say unto them: "You are] like those [hypocrites] who lived before your time. Greater than you were they in power, and richer in wealth and in children; and they enjoyed their share [of happiness]. And you have been enjoying your share -just as those who preceded you enjoyed their share; and you have been indulging in scurrilous talk -just as they indulged in it. It is they whose works have come to nought in this world and in the life to come - and it is they, they who are the cost!"

أَلَمْ يَأْتِهِمْ نَبَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ قَوْمِ نُوحٍۢ وَعَادٍۢ وَثَمُودَ وَقَوْمِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَأَصْحَٰبِ مَدْيَنَ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَٰتِ ۚ أَتَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ ۖ فَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ ﴿٧٠﴾

آیا خبر کسانی که پیش از آنها بودند، به آنان نرسیده است؟! «قوم نوح» و «عاد» و «ثمود» و «قوم ابراهیم» و «اصحاب مدین» [= قوم شعیب‌] و «شهرهای زیر و رو شده» [= قوم لوط]؛ پیامبرانشان دلایل روشن برای آنان آوردند، (ولی نپذیرفتند؛) خداوند به آنها ستم نکرد، امّا خودشان بر خویشتن ستم می‌کردند!

Have, then, the stories of those who preceded them never come within the ken of these [hypocrites and deniers of the truth]?-[the stories] of Noah's people, and of [the tribes of] `Ad and Thamud, and of Abraham's people, and of the folk of Madyan, and of the cities that were overthrown? To [all of] them their apostles had come with all evidence of the truth. [but they rejected them:] and so it was not God who wronged them [by His punishment], but it was they who wronged themselves.

وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ بَعْضٍۢ ۚ يَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَيُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَيُطِيعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ سَيَرْحَمُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌۭ ﴿٧١﴾

مردان و زنان باایمان، ولیّ (و یار و یاور) یکدیگرند؛ امر به معروف، و نهی از منکر می‌کنند؛ نماز را برپا می‌دارند؛ و زکات را می‌پردازند؛ و خدا و رسولش را اطاعت می‌کنند؛ بزودی خدا آنان را مورد رحمت خویش قرارمی‌دهد؛ خداوند توانا و حکیم است!

AND [as for] the believers, both men and women they are close unto one another: they [all] enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong, and are constant in prayer, and render the purifying dues, and pay heed unto God and His Apostle. It is they upon whom God will bestow His grace: verily, God is almighty, wise!

وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا وَمَسَٰكِنَ طَيِّبَةًۭ فِى جَنَّٰتِ عَدْنٍۢ ۚ وَرِضْوَٰنٌۭ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ﴿٧٢﴾

خداوند به مردان و زنان باایمان، باغهایی از بهشت وعده داده که نهرها از زیر درختانش جاری است؛ جاودانه در آن خواهند ماند؛ و مسکن‌های پاکیزه‌ای در بهشتهای جاودان (نصیب آنها ساخته)؛ و (خشنودی و) رضای خدا، (از همه اینها) برتر است؛ و پیروزی بزرگ، همین است!

God has promised the believers, both men and women, gardens through which running waters flow, therein to abide, and goodly dwellings in gardens of perpetual bliss: but God's goodly acceptance is the greatest [bliss of all] -for this, this is the triumph supreme!

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ جَٰهِدِ ٱلْكُفَّارَ وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ وَٱغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ ﴿٧٣﴾

ای پیامبر! با کافران و منافقان جهاد کن، و بر آنها سخت بگیر! جایگاهشان جهنم است؛ و چه بد سرنوشتی دارند!

O PROPHET! Strive hard against the deniers of the truth and the hypocrites, and be adamant with them. And [if they do not repent,] their goal shall be hell -and how vile a journey's end!

يَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ مَا قَالُوا۟ وَلَقَدْ قَالُوا۟ كَلِمَةَ ٱلْكُفْرِ وَكَفَرُوا۟ بَعْدَ إِسْلَٰمِهِمْ وَهَمُّوا۟ بِمَا لَمْ يَنَالُوا۟ ۚ وَمَا نَقَمُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ أَنْ أَغْنَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ ۚ فَإِن يَتُوبُوا۟ يَكُ خَيْرًۭا لَّهُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَتَوَلَّوْا۟ يُعَذِّبْهُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًۭا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْءَاخِرَةِ ۚ وَمَا لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِن وَلِىٍّۢ وَلَا نَصِيرٍۢ ﴿٧٤﴾

به خدا سوگند می‌خورند که (در غیاب پیامبر، سخنان نادرست) نگفته‌اند؛ در حالی که قطعاً سخنان کفرآمیز گفته‌اند؛ و پس از اسلام‌آوردنشان، کافر شده‌اند؛ و تصمیم (به کار خطرناکی) گرفتند، که به آن نرسیدند. آنها فقط از این انتقام می‌گیرند که خداوند و رسولش، آنان را به فضل (و کرم) خود، بی‌نیاز ساختند! (با این حال،) اگر توبه کنند، برای آنها بهتر است؛ و اگر روی گردانند، خداوند آنها را در دنیا و آخرت، به مجازات دردناکی کیفر خواهد داد؛ و در سراسر زمین، نه ولیّ و حامی دارند، و نه یاوری!

[The hypocrites] swear by God that they have said nothing [wrong]; yet most certainly have they uttered a saying which amounts to a denial of the truth, and have [thus] denied the truth after [having professed] their self-surrender to God: for they were aiming at something which was beyond their reach. And they could find no fault [with the Faith] save that God had enriched them and [caused] His Apostle [to enrich them] out of His bounty! Hence, if they repent, it will be for their own good. But if they turn away, God will cause them to suffer grievous suffering in this world and in the life to come, and they will find no helper on earth, and none to give [them] succour.

۞ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ عَٰهَدَ ٱللَّهَ لَئِنْ ءَاتَىٰنَا مِن فَضْلِهِۦ لَنَصَّدَّقَنَّ وَلَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ ﴿٧٥﴾

بعضی از آنها با خدا پیمان بسته بودند که: «اگر خداوند ما را از فضل خود روزی دهد، قطعاً صدقه خواهیم داد؛ و از صالحان (و شاکران) خواهیم بود!»

And among them are such as vow unto God, "If indeed He grant us [something] out of His bounty, we shall most certainly spend in charity, and shall most certainly be among the righteous!"

فَلَمَّآ ءَاتَىٰهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦ بَخِلُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ ﴿٧٦﴾

امّا هنگامی که خدا از فضل خود به آنها بخشید، بخل ورزیدند و سرپیچی کردند و روی برتافتند!

But as soon as He has given them [aught] out of His bounty. they cling to it niggardly, and turn away in their obstinacy [from all that they have vowed]:

فَأَعْقَبَهُمْ نِفَاقًۭا فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يَلْقَوْنَهُۥ بِمَآ أَخْلَفُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا وَعَدُوهُ وَبِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْذِبُونَ ﴿٧٧﴾

این عمل، (روح) نفاق را، تا روزی که خدا را ملاقات کنند، در دلهایشان برقرار ساخت. این بخاطر آن است که از پیمان الهی تخلّف جستند؛ و بخاطر آن است که دروغ می‌گفتند.

whereupon He causes hypocrisy to take root in their hearts, [therein to remain] until the Day on which they shall meet Him" - because they have failed to fulfil the vow which they had made unto God, and because they were wont to lie.

أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ سِرَّهُمْ وَنَجْوَىٰهُمْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَّٰمُ ٱلْغُيُوبِ ﴿٧٨﴾

آیا نمی‌دانستند که خداوند، اسرار و سخنان درگوشی آنها را می‌داند؛ و خداوند دانای همه غیبها (و امور پنهانی) است؟!

Do they not know that God knows [all] their hidden thoughts and their secret confabulations, and that God knows fully all the things that are beyond the reach of human perception'?

ٱلَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ ٱلْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِى ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ إِلَّا جُهْدَهُمْ فَيَسْخَرُونَ مِنْهُمْ ۙ سَخِرَ ٱللَّهُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ﴿٧٩﴾

آنهایی که از مؤمنان اطاعت کار، در صدقاتشان عیبجویی می‌کنند، و کسانی را که (برای انفاق در راه خدا) جز به مقدار (ناچیز) توانائی خود دسترسی ندارند، مسخره می‌نمایند، خدا آنها را مسخره می‌کند؛ (و کیفر استهزاکنندگان را به آنها می‌دهد؛) و برای آنها عذاب دردناکی است!

[It is these hypocrites] who find fault with such of the believers as give for the sake of God more than they are duty-bound to give, as well as with, such as find nothing [to give] beyond [the meagre fruits of] their toil, and who scoff at them [all]. God will cause their scoffing to rebound on themselves. and grievous suffering awaits them.

ٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لَا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ إِن تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةًۭ فَلَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ ﴿٨٠﴾

چه برای آنها استغفار کنی، و چه نکنی، (حتّی) اگر هفتاد بار برای آنها استغفار کنی، هرگز خدا آنها را نمی‌آمرزد! چرا که خدا و پیامبرش را انکار کردند؛ و خداوند جمعیّت فاسقان را هدایت نمی‌کند!

[And] whether thou dost pray [unto God] that they be forgiven or dost not pray for them - [it will all be the same: for even] if thou wert to pray seventy times that they be forgiven, God will not forgive them, seeing that they are bent on denying God and His Apostle. And God does not bestow His guidance upon such iniquitous folk.

فَرِحَ ٱلْمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقْعَدِهِمْ خِلَٰفَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَرِهُوٓا۟ أَن يُجَٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَنفِرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْحَرِّ ۗ قُلْ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرًّۭا ۚ لَّوْ كَانُوا۟ يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿٨١﴾

تخلّف‌جویان (از جنگ تبوک،) از مخالفت با رسول خدا خوشحال شدند؛ و کراهت داشتند که با اموال و جانهای خود، در راه خدا جهاد کنند؛ و (به یکدیگر و به مؤمنان) گفتند: «در این گرما، (بسوی میدان) حرکت نکنید!» (به آنان) بگو: «آتش دوزخ از این هم گرمتر است!» اگر می‌دانستند!

THOSE [hypocrites] who were left behind rejoiced in their staying away [from war] after [the departure of] God's Apostle, for they hated the thought of striving with their possessions and their lives in God's cause; and they had [even] said [to the others], "Do not go forth to war in this heat!" Say: "The fire of hell is hotter by far!" Had they but grasped this truth!

فَلْيَضْحَكُوا۟ قَلِيلًۭا وَلْيَبْكُوا۟ كَثِيرًۭا جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ﴿٨٢﴾

از این‌رو آنها باید کمتر بخندند و بسیار بگریند! (چرا که آتش جهنم در انتظارشان است) این، جزای کارهایی است که انجام می‌دادند!

Let them, then, laugh a little - for they will weep a lot in return for what they have earned.

فَإِن رَّجَعَكَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَىٰ طَآئِفَةٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ فَٱسْتَـْٔذَنُوكَ لِلْخُرُوجِ فَقُل لَّن تَخْرُجُوا۟ مَعِىَ أَبَدًۭا وَلَن تُقَٰتِلُوا۟ مَعِىَ عَدُوًّا ۖ إِنَّكُمْ رَضِيتُم بِٱلْقُعُودِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍۢ فَٱقْعُدُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْخَٰلِفِينَ ﴿٨٣﴾

هرگاه خداوند تو را بسوی گروهی از آنان بازگرداند، و از تو اجازه خروج (بسوی میدان جهاد) بخواهند، بگو: «هیچ گاه با من خارج نخواهید شد! و هرگز همراه من، با دشمنی نخواهید جنگید! شما نخستین بار به کناره‌گیری راضی شدید، اکنون نیز با متخلّفان بمانید!»

Hence, [O Prophet,] if God brings thee again face to face with some of them," and then they ask thy leave to go forth [to war with thee], say: "Never shall you go forth with me. nor shall you fight an enemy together with me! Behold, you were well-pleased to stay at home on that first occasion: stay at home, then, with, those who [are obliged to] remain behind!"

وَلَا تُصَلِّ عَلَىٰٓ أَحَدٍۢ مِّنْهُم مَّاتَ أَبَدًۭا وَلَا تَقُمْ عَلَىٰ قَبْرِهِۦٓ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَ ﴿٨٤﴾

هرگز بر مرده هیچ یک از آنان، نماز نخوان! و بر کنار قبرش، (برای دعا و طلب آمرزش،) نایست! چرا که آنها به خدا و رسولش کافر شدند؛ و در حالی که فاسق بودند از دنیا رفتند!

And never shalt thou pray over any of them that has died, and never shalt thou stand by his grave: for, behold, they were bent on denying God and His Apostle, and they died in this their iniquity.

وَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَأَوْلَٰدُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ ﴿٨٥﴾

مبادا اموال و فرزندانشان، مایه شگفتی تو گردد! (این برای آنها نعمت نیست؛ بلکه) خدا می‌خواهد آنها را به این وسیله در دنیا عذاب کند، و جانشان برآید در حالی که کافرند!

And let not their worldly goods and [the happiness which they may derive from] their children excite thy admiration: God but wants to chastise them by these means in [the life of] this world, and [to cause] their souls to depart while they are [still] denying the truth.

وَإِذَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ أَنْ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَجَٰهِدُوا۟ مَعَ رَسُولِهِ ٱسْتَـْٔذَنَكَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلطَّوْلِ مِنْهُمْ وَقَالُوا۟ ذَرْنَا نَكُن مَّعَ ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ ﴿٨٦﴾

و هنگامی که سوره‌ای نازل شود (و به آنان دستور دهد) که: «به خدا ایمان بیاورید! و همراه پیامبرش جهاد کنید!»، افرادی از آنها [= گروه منافقان‌] که توانایی دارند، از تو اجازه می‌خواهند و می‌گویند: «بگذار ما با قاعدین [= آنها که از جهاد معافند] باشیم!»

[They are indeed denying it:] for, when they were called upon through revelation, "Believe in God, and strive hard [in His cause] together with His Apostle," [even] such of them as were well able [to go to war] asked thee for exemption, saying, "Allow us to stay behind with those who remain at home!"

رَضُوا۟ بِأَن يَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْخَوَالِفِ وَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿٨٧﴾

(آری،) آنها راضی شدند که با متخلّفان باشند؛ و بر دلهایشان مهر نهاده شده؛ از این رو (چیزی) نمی‌فهمند!

They were well-pleased to remain with those who were left behind - where for their hearts have been sealed, so that they cannot grasp the truth.

لَٰكِنِ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ جَٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ ۚ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱلْخَيْرَٰتُ ۖ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ ﴿٨٨﴾

ولی پیامبر و کسانی که با او ایمان آوردند، با اموال و جانهایشان جهاد کردند؛ و همه نیکیها برای آنهاست؛ و آنها همان رستگارانند!

The Apostle, however, and all who share his faith strive hard [in God's cause] with, their possessions and their lives: and it is they whom the most excellent things await [in the life to come], and it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state!

أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ﴿٨٩﴾

خداوند برای آنها باغهایی از بهشت فراهم ساخته که نهرها از زیر درختانش جاری است؛ جاودانه در آن خواهند بود؛ و این است رستگاری (و پیروزی) بزرگ!

God has readied for them gardens through which running waters flow, therein to abide: and this is the triumph supreme!

وَجَآءَ ٱلْمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ لِيُؤْذَنَ لَهُمْ وَقَعَدَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَبُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ سَيُصِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۭ ﴿٩٠﴾

و عذرآورندگان از اعراب، (نزد تو) آمدند که به آنها اجازه (عدم شرکت در جهاد) داده شود؛ و آنها که به خدا و پیامبرش دروغ گفتند، (بدون هیچ عذری در خانه خود) نشستند؛ بزودی به کسانی از آنها که مخالفت کردند (و معذور نبودند)، عذاب دردناکی خواهد رسید!

AND THERE came [unto the Apostle] such of the bedouin as had some excuse to offer, [with the request] that they be granted exemption, whereas those who were bent on giving the lie to God and His Apostle [simply] remained at home. [And] grievous suffering is bound to befall such of them as are bent on denying the truth!

لَّيْسَ عَلَى ٱلضُّعَفَآءِ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلْمَرْضَىٰ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ مَا يُنفِقُونَ حَرَجٌ إِذَا نَصَحُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ۚ مَا عَلَى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ مِن سَبِيلٍۢ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ﴿٩١﴾

بر ضعیفان و بیماران و آنها که وسیله‌ای برای انفاق (در راه جهاد) ندارند، ایرادی نیست (که در میدان جنگ شرکت نجویند،) هرگاه برای خدا و رسولش خیرخواهی کنند (؛ و از آنچه در توان دارند، مضایقه ننمایند). بر نیکوکاران راه مؤاخذه نیست؛ و خداوند آمرزنده و مهربان است!

[But] no blame shall attach to the weak, nor to the sick, nor to those who have no means. [to equip themselves], provided that they are sincere towards God and His Apostle: there is no cause to reproach the doers of good, for God is much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace.

وَلَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا مَآ أَتَوْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ قُلْتَ لَآ أَجِدُ مَآ أَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ تَوَلَّوا۟ وَّأَعْيُنُهُمْ تَفِيضُ مِنَ ٱلدَّمْعِ حَزَنًا أَلَّا يَجِدُوا۟ مَا يُنفِقُونَ ﴿٩٢﴾

و (نیز) ایرادی نیست بر آنها که وقتی نزد تو آمدند که آنان را بر مرکبی (برای جهاد) سوار کنی، گفتی: «مرکبی که شما را بر آن سوار کنم، ندارم!» (از نزد تو) بازگشتند در حالی که چشمانشان از اندوه اشکبار بود؛ زیرا چیزی نداشتند که در راه خدا انفاق کنند (و با آن به میدان بروند)

Nor [shall blame attach] to those who, when they came unto thee [O Prophet, with the request] that thou provide them with mounts, were told by thee, "I cannot find anything whereon to mount you" - [whereupon] they turned away, their eyes overflowing with tears out of sorrow that they had no means to spend [on their equipment].

۞ إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَـْٔذِنُونَكَ وَهُمْ أَغْنِيَآءُ ۚ رَضُوا۟ بِأَن يَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْخَوَالِفِ وَطَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٩٣﴾

راه مؤاخذه تنها به روی کسانی باز است که از تو اجازه می‌خواهند در حالی که توانگرند؛ (و امکانات کافی برای جهاد دارند؛) آنها راضی شدند که با متخلّفان [= زنان و کودکان و بیماران‌] بمانند؛ و خداوند بر دلهایشان مهر نهاده؛ به همین جهت چیزی نمی‌دانند!

Only they may rightly be reproached who asked thee for exemption even though they were fully able [to go to war]. They were well-pleased to remain with those who were left behind -wherefore God has sealed their hearts, so that they do not know [what they are doing].

يَعْتَذِرُونَ إِلَيْكُمْ إِذَا رَجَعْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ ۚ قُل لَّا تَعْتَذِرُوا۟ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكُمْ قَدْ نَبَّأَنَا ٱللَّهُ مِنْ أَخْبَارِكُمْ ۚ وَسَيَرَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُۥ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿٩٤﴾

هنگامی که بسوی آنها (که از جهاد تخلّف کردند) باز گردید، از شما عذرخواهی می‌کنند؛ بگو: «عذرخواهی نکنید، ما هرگز به شما ایمان نخواهیم آورد! چرا که خدا ما را از اخبارتان آگاه ساخته؛ و خدا و رسولش، اعمال شما را می‌بینند؛ سپس به سوی کسی که دانای پنهان و آشکار است بازگشت داده می‌شوید؛ و او شما را به آنچه انجام می‌دادید، آگاه می‌کند (و جزا می‌دهد!)»

[And] they will [still] be offering excuses to you when you return to them, [from the campaign]! Say: "Do not offer [empty] excuses, [for] we shall not believe you: God has already enlightened us about you. And God will behold your [future] deeds, and [so will] His Apostle; and in the end you will be brought before Him who knows all that is beyond the reach of a created being's perception as well as all that can be witnessed by a creature's senses or mind, and then He will make you truly understand what you were doing [in life]."

سَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَكُمْ إِذَا ٱنقَلَبْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لِتُعْرِضُوا۟ عَنْهُمْ ۖ فَأَعْرِضُوا۟ عَنْهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ رِجْسٌۭ ۖ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ﴿٩٥﴾

هنگامی که بسوی آنان بازگردید، برای شما به خدا سوگند یاد می‌کنند، تا از آنها اعراض (و صرف نظر) کنید؛ از آنها اعراض کنید (و روی بگردانید)؛ چرا که پلیدند! و جایگاهشان دوزخ است، بکیفر اعمالی که انجام می‌دادند.

When you will have returned to them, (O believers,] they will swear to you by God, [repeating their excuses,] with a view to your letting them be. Let them be, then: behold, they are loathsome, and hell is their goal in recompense for what they were wont to do.

يَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ لِتَرْضَوْا۟ عَنْهُمْ ۖ فَإِن تَرْضَوْا۟ عَنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَرْضَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ ﴿٩٦﴾

برای شما قسم یاد می‌کنند تا از آنها راضی شوید؛ اگر شما از آنها راضی شوید، خداوند (هرگز) از جمعیّت فاسقان راضی نخواهد شد!

They will swear to you with a view to making you pleased with them: but [even] should you be pleased with them, verily, God shall never be pleased with iniquitous folk.

ٱلْأَعْرَابُ أَشَدُّ كُفْرًۭا وَنِفَاقًۭا وَأَجْدَرُ أَلَّا يَعْلَمُوا۟ حُدُودَ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ ﴿٩٧﴾

بادیه‌نشینان عرب، کفر و نفاقشان شدیدتر است؛ و به ناآگاهی از حدود و احکامی که خدا بر پیامبرش نازل کرده، سزاوارترند؛ و خداوند دانا و حکیم است!

[The hypocrites among] the bedouin are more tenacious in [their] refusal to acknowledge the truth and in [their] hypocrisy [than are settled people], and more liable to ignore the ordinances which God has bestowed from on high upon His Apostle - but God is all-knowing, wise.

وَمِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ مَن يَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ مَغْرَمًۭا وَيَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمُ ٱلدَّوَآئِرَ ۚ عَلَيْهِمْ دَآئِرَةُ ٱلسَّوْءِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌۭ ﴿٩٨﴾

گروهی از (این) اعراب بادیه‌نشین، چیزی را که (در راه خدا) انفاق می‌کنند، غرامت محسوب می‌دارند؛ و انتظار حوادث دردناکی برای شما می‌کشند؛ حوادث دردناک برای خود آنهاست؛ و خداوند شنوا و داناست!

And among the bedouin there are such as regard all that they might spend [in God's cause] as a loss, and wait for misfortune to encompass you, [O believers: but] it is they whom evil fortune shall encompass - for God is all-hearing, all-knowing.

وَمِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ مَن يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ وَيَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ قُرُبَٰتٍ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَصَلَوَٰتِ ٱلرَّسُولِ ۚ أَلَآ إِنَّهَا قُرْبَةٌۭ لَّهُمْ ۚ سَيُدْخِلُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ﴿٩٩﴾

گروهی (دیگر) از عربهای بادیه‌نشین، به خدا و روز رستاخیز ایمان دارند؛ و آنچه را انفاق می‌کنند، مایه تقرّب به خدا، و دعای پیامبر می‌دانند؛ آگاه باشید اینها مایه تقرّب آنهاست! خداوند بزودی آنان را در رحمت خود وارد خواهد ساخت؛ به یقین، خداوند آمرزنده و مهربان است!

However, among the bedouin there are [also] such as believe in God and the Last Day, and regard all that they spend (in God's cause] as a means of drawing them nearer to God and of [their being remembered in] the. Apostle's prayers. Oh, verily, it shall [indeed] be a means of [God's] nearness to them, [for] God will admit them unto His grace: verily, God is much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace!

وَٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُهَٰجِرِينَ وَٱلْأَنصَارِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُم بِإِحْسَٰنٍۢ رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى تَحْتَهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًۭا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ﴿١٠٠﴾

پیشگامان نخستین از مهاجرین و انصار، و کسانی که به نیکی از آنها پیروی کردند، خداوند از آنها خشنود گشت، و آنها (نیز) از او خشنود شدند؛ و باغهایی از بهشت برای آنان فراهم ساخته، که نهرها از زیر درختانش جاری است؛ جاودانه در آن خواهند ماند؛ و این است پیروزی بزرگ!

And as for the first and foremost of those who have forsaken the domain of evil and of those who have sheltered and succoured the Faith, as well as those who follow them in [the way of] righteousness - God is well-pleased with them, and well--pleased are they with Him. And for them has He readied gardens through which running waters flow, therein to abide beyond the count of time: this is the triumph supreme!

وَمِمَّنْ حَوْلَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ مُنَٰفِقُونَ ۖ وَمِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ ۖ مَرَدُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنِّفَاقِ لَا تَعْلَمُهُمْ ۖ نَحْنُ نَعْلَمُهُمْ ۚ سَنُعَذِّبُهُم مَّرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ عَظِيمٍۢ ﴿١٠١﴾

و از (میان) اعراب بادیه‌نشین که اطراف شما هستند، جمعی منافقند؛ و از اهل مدینه (نیز)، گروهی سخت به نفاق پای بندند. تو آنها را نمی‌شناسی، ولی ما آنها را می شناسیم. بزودی آنها را دو بار مجازات می‌کنیم (: مجازاتی با رسوایی در دنیا، و مجازاتی به هنگام مرگ)؛ سپس بسوی مجازات بزرگی (در قیامت) فرستاده می‌شوند.

But among the bedouin who dwell around you there are hypocrites; and among the people of the [Prophet's] City [too] there are such as have grown insolent in [their] hypocrisy. Thou dost not [always] know them, [O Muhammad - but] We know them. We shall cause them to suffer doubly [in this world]; and then they will be given over to awesome suffering [in the life to come].

وَءَاخَرُونَ ٱعْتَرَفُوا۟ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ خَلَطُوا۟ عَمَلًۭا صَٰلِحًۭا وَءَاخَرَ سَيِّئًا عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَتُوبَ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌ ﴿١٠٢﴾

و گروهی دیگر، به گناهان خود اعتراف کردند؛ و کار خوب و بد را به هم آمیختند؛ امید می‌رود که خداوند توبه آنها را بپذیرد؛ به یقین، خداوند آمرزنده و مهربان است!

And [there are] others - [people who] have become conscious of their sinning after having done righteous deeds side by side with evil ones; [and] it may well be that God will accept their repentance: for, verily, God is much-forgiving, a dispenser' of grace.

خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ صَدَقَةًۭ تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ إِنَّ صَلَوٰتَكَ سَكَنٌۭ لَّهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ ﴿١٠٣﴾

از اموال آنها صدقه‌ای (بعنوان زکات) بگیر، تا بوسیله آن، آنها را پاک سازی و پرورش دهی! و (به هنگام گرفتن زکات،) به آنها دعا کن؛ که دعای تو، مایه آرامش آنهاست؛ و خداوند شنوا و داناست!

[Hence, O Prophet,] accept that [part] of their possessions which is offered for the sake of God, so that thou mayest cleanse them thereby and cause them to grow in purity, and pray for them: behold, thy prayer will be [a source of] comfort to them-for God is all-hearing, all-knowing.

أَلَمْ يَعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ يَقْبَلُ ٱلتَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَأْخُذُ ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ﴿١٠٤﴾

آیا نمی‌دانستند که فقط خداوند توبه را از بندگانش می‌پذیرد، و صدقات را می‌گیرد، و خداوند توبه‌پذیر و مهربان است؟!

Do they not know that it is God alone who can accept the repentance of His servants and is the [true] recipient of whatever is offered for His sake - and that God alone is an acceptor of repentance, a dispenser of grace?

وَقُلِ ٱعْمَلُوا۟ فَسَيَرَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۖ وَسَتُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ﴿١٠٥﴾

بگو: «عمل کنید! خداوند و فرستاده او و مؤمنان، اعمال شما را می‌بینند! و بزودی، بسوی دانای نهان و آشکار، بازگردانده می‌شوید؛ و شما را به آنچه عمل می‌کردید، خبر می‌دهد!»

And say [unto them, O Prophet]: "Act! And God will behold your deeds, and [so will] His Apostle, and the believers: and [in the end] you will be brought before Him who knows all that is beyond the reach of a created being's perception as well as all that can be witnessed by a creature's senses or mind -and then He will make you understand what you have been doing."

وَءَاخَرُونَ مُرْجَوْنَ لِأَمْرِ ٱللَّهِ إِمَّا يُعَذِّبُهُمْ وَإِمَّا يَتُوبُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ ﴿١٠٦﴾

و گروهی دیگر، به فرمان خدا واگذار شده‌اند (و کارشان با خداست)؛ یا آنها را مجازات می‌کند، و یا توبه آنان را می‌پذیرد (، هر طور که شایسته باشند)؛ و خداوند دانا و حکیم است!

And [there are yet] others-[people whose cases are] deferred until God wills to judge them: He will either chastise them or turn again unto them in His mercy-for God is all-knowing, wise.

وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مَسْجِدًۭا ضِرَارًۭا وَكُفْرًۭا وَتَفْرِيقًۢا بَيْنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِرْصَادًۭا لِّمَنْ حَارَبَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ مِن قَبْلُ ۚ وَلَيَحْلِفُنَّ إِنْ أَرَدْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ ﴿١٠٧﴾

(گروهی دیگر از آنها) کسانی هستند که مسجدی ساختند برای زیان (به مسلمانان)، و (تقوّیت) کفر، و تفرقه‌افکنی میان مؤمنان، و کمینگاه برای کسی که از پیش با خدا و پیامبرش مبارزه کرده بود؛ آنها سوگند یاد می‌کنند که: «جز نیکی (و خدمت)، نظری نداشته‌ایم!» امّا خداوند گواهی می‌دهد که آنها دروغگو هستند!

AND [there are hypocrites] who have established a [separate] house of worship in order to create mischief, and to promote apostasy and disunity among the believers, and to provide an outpost for all who from the outset have been warring against God and His Apostle. And they will surely swear [to you, O believers], "We had but the best of intentions!" -the while God [Himself] bears witness that they are lying.

لَا تَقُمْ فِيهِ أَبَدًۭا ۚ لَّمَسْجِدٌ أُسِّسَ عَلَى ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ مِنْ أَوَّلِ يَوْمٍ أَحَقُّ أَن تَقُومَ فِيهِ ۚ فِيهِ رِجَالٌۭ يُحِبُّونَ أَن يَتَطَهَّرُوا۟ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُطَّهِّرِينَ ﴿١٠٨﴾

هرگز در آن (مسجد به عبادت) نایست! آن مسجدی که از روز نخست بر پایه تقوا بنا شده، شایسته‌تر است که در آن (به عبادت) بایستی؛ در آن، مردانی هستند که دوست می‌دارند پاکیزه باشند؛ و خداوند پاکیزگان را دوست دارد!

Never set foot in such a place! Only a house of worship founded, from the very first day, upon God-consciousness is worthy of thy setting foot therein -[a house of worship] wherein there are men desirous of growing in purity: for God loves all who purify themselves.

أَفَمَنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَٰنَهُۥ عَلَىٰ تَقْوَىٰ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضْوَٰنٍ خَيْرٌ أَم مَّنْ أَسَّسَ بُنْيَٰنَهُۥ عَلَىٰ شَفَا جُرُفٍ هَارٍۢ فَٱنْهَارَ بِهِۦ فِى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ ﴿١٠٩﴾

آیا کسی که شالوده آن را بر تقوای الهی و خشنودی او بنا کرده بهتر است، یا کسی که اساس آن را بر کنار پرتگاه سستی بنا نموده که ناگهان در آتش دوزخ فرومی‌ریزد؟ و خداوند گروه ستمگران را هدایت نمی‌کند!

Which. then, is the better: he who has founded his building on God-consciousness and [a desire for] His goodly acceptance-or he who has founded his building on the edge of a water-worn, crumbling river-bank, so that it [is bound to] tumble down with him into the fire of hell? For, God does not grace with His guidance people who [deliberately] do wrong:

لَا يَزَالُ بُنْيَٰنُهُمُ ٱلَّذِى بَنَوْا۟ رِيبَةًۭ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ إِلَّآ أَن تَقَطَّعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ ﴿١١٠﴾

(امّا) این بنایی را که آنها ساختند، همواره بصورت یک وسیله شک و تردید، در دلهایشان باقی می‌ماند؛ مگر اینکه دلهایشان پاره پاره شود (و بمیرند؛ وگرنه، هرگز از دل آنها بیرون نمی‌رود)؛ و خداوند دانا و حکیم است!

the building which they have built will never cease to be a source of deep disquiet in their hearts until their hearts crumble to pieces. And God is all-knowing, wise.

۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱشْتَرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَمْوَٰلَهُم بِأَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلْجَنَّةَ ۚ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَيَقْتُلُونَ وَيُقْتَلُونَ ۖ وَعْدًا عَلَيْهِ حَقًّۭا فِى ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ وَٱلْإِنجِيلِ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚ وَمَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِعَهْدِهِۦ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَٱسْتَبْشِرُوا۟ بِبَيْعِكُمُ ٱلَّذِى بَايَعْتُم بِهِۦ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ﴿١١١﴾

خداوند از مؤمنان، جانها و اموالشان را خریداری کرده، که (در برابرش) بهشت برای آنان باشد؛ (به این گونه که:) در راه خدا پیکار می‌کنند، می‌کشند و کشته می‌شوند؛ این وعده حقّی است بر او، که در تورات و انجیل و قرآن ذکر فرموده؛ و چه کسی از خدا به عهدش وفادارتر است؟! اکنون بشارت باد بر شما، به داد و ستدی که با خدا کرده‌اید؛ و این است آن پیروزی بزرگ!

BEHOLD, God has bought of the believers their lives and their possessions, promising them paradise in return, [and so] they fight in God's cause, and slay, and are slain: a promise which in truth He has willed upon Himself in [the words of] the Torah, and the Gospel, and the Qur'an. And who could be more faithful to his covenant than God? Rejoice, then, in the bargain which you have made with Him: for this, this is the triumph supreme!

ٱلتَّٰٓئِبُونَ ٱلْعَٰبِدُونَ ٱلْحَٰمِدُونَ ٱلسَّٰٓئِحُونَ ٱلرَّٰكِعُونَ ٱلسَّٰجِدُونَ ٱلْءَامِرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَٱلنَّاهُونَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱلْحَٰفِظُونَ لِحُدُودِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿١١٢﴾

توبه‌کنندگان، عبادت کاران، سپاسگویان، سیاحت کنندگان، رکوع کنندگان، سجده‌آوران، آمران به معروف، نهی کنندگان از منکر، و حافظان حدود (و مرزهای) الهی، (مؤمنان حقیقی‌اند)؛ و بشارت ده به (اینچنین) مؤمنان!

[It is a triumph of] those who turn [unto God] in repentance [whenever they have sinned], and who worship and praise [Him], and go on and on [seeking His goodly acceptance], and bow down [before Him] and prostrate themselves in adoration, and enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong, and keep to the bounds set by God. And give thou [O Prophet] the glad tiding [of God's promise] to all believers.

مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِىِّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَن يَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَوْ كَانُوٓا۟ أُو۟لِى قُرْبَىٰ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْجَحِيمِ ﴿١١٣﴾

برای پیامبر و مؤمنان، شایسته نبود که برای مشرکان (از خداوند) طلب آمرزش کنند، هر چند از نزدیکانشان باشند؛ (آن هم) پس از آنکه بر آنها روشن شد که این گروه، اهل دوزخند!

IT DOES NOT behove the Prophet and those who have attained to faith to pray that they who ascribed divinity to aught beside God be forgiven [by Him] even though they happened to be [their] near of kin -after it has been made clear unto them that those [dead sinners] are destined for. the blazing fire.

وَمَا كَانَ ٱسْتِغْفَارُ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ إِلَّا عَن مَّوْعِدَةٍۢ وَعَدَهَآ إِيَّاهُ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُۥٓ أَنَّهُۥ عَدُوٌّۭ لِّلَّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُ ۚ إِنَّ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ لَأَوَّٰهٌ حَلِيمٌۭ ﴿١١٤﴾

و استغفار ابراهیم برای پدرش [= عمویش آزر]، فقط بخاطر وعده‌ای بود که به او داده بود (تا وی را بسوی ایمان جذب کند)؛ امّا هنگامی که برای او روشن شد که وی دشمن خداست، از او بیزاری جست؛ به یقین، ابراهیم مهربان و بردبار بود!

And Abraham's prayer that his father be forgiven was but due to a promise which he had given the latter [in his lifetime]; but when it was made clear unto him that he had been God's enemy, [Abraham] disavowed him - [although;] behold, Abraham was most tender-hearted. most clement.

وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُضِلَّ قَوْمًۢا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَىٰهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُبَيِّنَ لَهُم مَّا يَتَّقُونَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ ﴿١١٥﴾

چنان نبود که خداوند قومی را، پس از آن که آنها را هدایت کرد (و ایمان آوردند) گمراه (و مجازات) کند؛ مگر آنکه اموری را که باید از آن بپرهیزند، برای آنان بیان نماید (و آنها مخالفت کنند)؛ زیرا خداوند به هر چیزی داناست!

And God would never-after having invited them to His guidance -condemn people for going astray ere He has made [entirely] clear unto them of what they should beware. Verily, God has full knowledge of everything.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۚ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِىٍّۢ وَلَا نَصِيرٍۢ ﴿١١٦﴾

حکومت آسمانها و زمین تنها از آن خداست؛ زنده می‌کند و می‌میراند؛ و جز خدا، ولیّ و یاوری ندارید!

Verily, God's alone is the dominion over the heavens and the earth; He [alone] grants life and deals death; and there is none besides God who could protect you or bring you succour.

لَّقَد تَّابَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ وَٱلْمُهَٰجِرِينَ وَٱلْأَنصَارِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ فِى سَاعَةِ ٱلْعُسْرَةِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا كَادَ يَزِيغُ قُلُوبُ فَرِيقٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِهِمْ رَءُوفٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ﴿١١٧﴾

مسلّماً خداوند رحمت خود را شامل حال پیامبر و مهاجران و انصار، که در زمان عسرت و شدّت (در جنگ تبوک) از او پیروی کردند، نمود؛ بعد از آنکه نزدیک بود دلهای گروهی از آنها، از حقّ منحرف شود (و از میدان جنگ بازگردند)؛ سپس خدا توبه آنها را پذیرفت، که او نسبت به آنان مهربان و رحیم است!

INDEED, God has turned in His mercy unto the Prophet, as well as unto those who have forsaken the domain of evil and those who have sheltered and succoured the Faiths - [all] those who followed him in the hour of distress, when the hearts of some of the other believers had well-nigh swerved from faith. And once again: He has turned unto them in His mercy - for, behold, He is compassionate towards them, a dispenser of grace.

وَعَلَى ٱلثَّلَٰثَةِ ٱلَّذِينَ خُلِّفُوا۟ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا ضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتْ وَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَن لَّا مَلْجَأَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّآ إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ لِيَتُوبُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ﴿١١٨﴾

(همچنین) آن سه نفر که (از شرکت در جنگ تبوک) تخلّف جستند، (و مسلمانان با آنان قطع رابطه نمودند،) تا آن حدّ که زمین با همه وسعتش بر آنها تنگ شد؛ (حتّی) در وجود خویش، جایی برای خود نمی‌یافتند؛ (در آن هنگام) دانستند پناهگاهی از خدا جز بسوی او نیست؛ سپس خدا رحمتش را شامل حال آنها نمود، (و به آنان توفیق داد) تا توبه کنند؛ خداوند بسیار توبه‌پذیر و مهربان است!

And [He turned in His mercy, too,] towards the three [groups of believers] who had fallen prey to corruption, until in the end-after the earth, despite all its vastness, had become [too] narrow for them and their souls had become [utterly] constricted they came to know with certainty that there is no refuge from God other than [a return] unto Him; and thereupon He turned again unto them in His mercy, so that they might repent: for, verily, God alone is an acceptor of repentance, a dispenser of grace.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ ﴿١١٩﴾

ای کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اید! از (مخالفت فرمان) خدا بپرهیزید، و با صادقان باشید!

O YOU who have attained to faith! Remain conscious of God, and be among those who are true to their word!

مَا كَانَ لِأَهْلِ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ أَن يَتَخَلَّفُوا۟ عَن رَّسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَرْغَبُوا۟ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ لَا يُصِيبُهُمْ ظَمَأٌۭ وَلَا نَصَبٌۭ وَلَا مَخْمَصَةٌۭ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَطَـُٔونَ مَوْطِئًۭا يَغِيظُ ٱلْكُفَّارَ وَلَا يَنَالُونَ مِنْ عَدُوٍّۢ نَّيْلًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُم بِهِۦ عَمَلٌۭ صَٰلِحٌ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ ﴿١٢٠﴾

سزاوار نیست که اهل مدینه، و بادیه‌نشینانی که اطراف آنها هستند، از رسول خدا تخلّف جویند؛ و برای حفظ جان خویش، از جان او چشم بپوشند! این بخاطر آن است که هیچ تشنگی و خستگی، و گرسنگی در راه خدا به آنها نمی‌رسد و هیچ گامی که موجب خشم کافران می‌شود برنمی‌دارند، و ضربه‌ای از دشمن نمی‌خورند، مگر اینکه به خاطر آن، عمل صالحی برای آنها نوشته می‌شود؛ زیرا خداوند پاداش نیکوکاران را تباه نمی‌کند!

It does not behove the people of the [Prophet's] City and the bedouin [who live] around them to hold back from following God's Apostle, or to care for their own selves more than for him -for, whenever they suffer from thirst or weariness or hunger in God's cause, and whenever they take any step which confounds those who deny the truth, and whenever there comes to them from the enemy whatever may be destined for them -[whenever anything thereof comes to pass,,] a good deed is recorded in their favour. Verily, God does not fail to requite the doers of good!

وَلَا يُنفِقُونَ نَفَقَةًۭ صَغِيرَةًۭ وَلَا كَبِيرَةًۭ وَلَا يَقْطَعُونَ وَادِيًا إِلَّا كُتِبَ لَهُمْ لِيَجْزِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ﴿١٢١﴾

و هیچ مال کوچک یا بزرگی را (در این راه) انفاق نمی‌کنند، و هیچ سرزمینی را (بسوی میدان جهاد و یا در بازگشت) نمی‌پیمایند، مگر اینکه برای آنها نوشته می‌شود؛ تا خداوند آن را بعنوان بهترین اعمالشان، پاداش دهد.

And whenever they spend anything [for the sake of God], be it little or much, and whenever they move on earth [in God's cause] -it is recorded in their favour, and God will grant them the best reward for all that they have been doing.

۞ وَمَا كَانَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ لِيَنفِرُوا۟ كَآفَّةًۭ ۚ فَلَوْلَا نَفَرَ مِن كُلِّ فِرْقَةٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ طَآئِفَةٌۭ لِّيَتَفَقَّهُوا۟ فِى ٱلدِّينِ وَلِيُنذِرُوا۟ قَوْمَهُمْ إِذَا رَجَعُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَحْذَرُونَ ﴿١٢٢﴾

شایسته نیست مؤمنان همگی (بسوی میدان جهاد) کوچ کنند؛ چرا از هر گروهی از آنان، طایفه‌ای کوچ نمی‌کند (و طایفه‌ای در مدینه بماند)، تا در دین (و معارف و احکام اسلام) آگاهی یابند و به هنگام بازگشت بسوی قوم خود، آنها را بیم دهند؟! شاید (از مخالفت فرمان پروردگار) بترسند، و خودداری کنند!

With all this, it is not desirable that all of the believers take the field [in time of war]. From within every group in their midst, some shall refrain from going forth to war, and shall devote themselves [instead] to acquiring a deeper knowledge of the Faith. and [thus be able to] teach their home-coming brethren, so that these [too] might guard themselves against evil.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قَٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ يَلُونَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ وَلْيَجِدُوا۟ فِيكُمْ غِلْظَةًۭ ۚ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿١٢٣﴾

ای کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اید! با کافرانی که به شما نزدیکترند، پیکار کنید! (و دشمن دورتر، شما را از دشمنان نزدیک غافل نکند!) آنها باید در شما شدّت و خشونت (و قدرت) احساس کنند؛ و بدانید خداوند با پرهیزگاران است!

O you who have attained to faith! Fight against those deniers of the truth who are near you, and let them find you adamant; and know that. God is with those who are conscious of Him.

وَإِذَا مَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌۭ فَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ أَيُّكُمْ زَادَتْهُ هَٰذِهِۦٓ إِيمَٰنًۭا ۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فَزَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَٰنًۭا وَهُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ ﴿١٢٤﴾

و هنگامی که سوره‌ای نازل می‌شود، بعضی از آنان (به دیگران) می‌گویند: «این سوره، ایمان کدام یک از شما را افزون ساخت؟!» (به آنها بگو:) اما کسانی که ایمان آورده‌اند، بر ایمانشان افزوده؛ و آنها (به فضل و رحمت الهی) خوشحالند.

YET WHENEVER a surah [of this divine writ] is bestowed from on high, some of the deniers of the truth are prone to ask, "Which of you has this [message] strengthened in his faith?" Now as for those who have attained to faith, it does strengthen them in their faith, and they rejoice in the glad tiding [which God has given them].

وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ فَزَادَتْهُمْ رِجْسًا إِلَىٰ رِجْسِهِمْ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ ﴿١٢٥﴾

و امّا آنها که در دلهایشان بیماری است، پلیدی بر پلیدیشان افزوده؛ و از دنیا رفتند در حالی که کافر بودند.

But as for those in whose hearts is disease, each new message but adds another [element of] disbelief to the disbelief which they already harbour, and they die while [still] refusing to acknowledge the truth.

أَوَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُمْ يُفْتَنُونَ فِى كُلِّ عَامٍۢ مَّرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ لَا يَتُوبُونَ وَلَا هُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ ﴿١٢٦﴾

آیا آنها نمی‌بینند که در هر سال، یک یا دو بار آزمایش می‌شوند؟! باز توبه نمی‌کنند، و متذکّر هم نمی‌گردند!

Are they, then, not aware that they are being tested year-in, year-out? And yet, they do not repent and do not bethink themselves [of God];

وَإِذَا مَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌۭ نَّظَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ هَلْ يَرَىٰكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍۢ ثُمَّ ٱنصَرَفُوا۟ ۚ صَرَفَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُم بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌۭ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿١٢٧﴾

و هنگامی که سوره‌ای نازل می‌شود، بعضی از آنها [= منافقان‌] به یکدیگر نگاه می‌کنند و می‌گویند: «آیا کسی شما را می‌بیند؟ (اگر از حضور پیامبر بیرون رویم، کسی متوجّه ما نمی‌شود!)» سپس منصرف می‌شوند (و بیرون می‌روند)؛ خداوند دلهایشان را (از حق) منصرف ساخته؛ چرا که آنها، گروهی هستند که نمی‌فهمند (و بی‌دانشند)!

and whenever a surah is bestowed from on high, they look at one another [and say, as it were], "Is there anyone who can see what is in your hearts?" -and then they turn away. God has turned their hearts away [from the truth] - for they are people who will not grasp it.

لَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌۭ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ﴿١٢٨﴾

به یقین، رسولی از خود شما بسویتان آمد که رنجهای شما بر او سخت است؛ و اصرار بر هدایت شما دارد؛ و نسبت به مؤمنان، رئوف و مهربان است!

INDEED, there has come unto you [O mankind] an Apostle from among yourselves: heavily weighs -upon him [the thought] that you might suffer [in the life to come]; full of concern for you [is he, and] full of compassion and mercy towards the believers.

فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَقُلْ حَسْبِىَ ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ ۖ وَهُوَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ﴿١٢٩﴾

اگر آنها (از حق) روی بگردانند، (نگران مباش!) بگو: «خداوند مرا کفایت می‌کند؛ هیچ معبودی جز او نیست؛ بر او توکّل کردم؛ و او صاحب عرش بزرگ است!»

But if those [who are bent on denying the truth] turn away, say: "God is enough for me! There is no- deity save Him. In Him have I placed my trust, for He is the Sustainer, in awesome almightiness enthroned."
